Changes at Hogwarts
Prince and Rutledge Retire ![]() |
Hogwarts students will be returning to school in a few weeks to find that some familiar faces will not be there to greet them. Professors William Rutledge and Icarus Prince, who taught History of Magic and Potions, respectively, have both chosen to retire after many years of service to the school. Mr. Prince spent the years following his Hogwarts education as a potioneer, inventing new potions and more effective ways of brewing already established ones. After the death of his wife in a potion mishap, he devoted his interest instead to plants and in 1873, took up the post of Herbology professor at Hogwarts. He became Head of Slytherin house in 1876 and Deputy Headmaster in 1883, the same year he switched from teaching Herbology to Potions. As Potions professor and head of Slytherin House, Mr. Prince will be succeeded by Professor Meseriumus Valenduris. He taught previously at Hogwarts from 1855 to 1867, but most recently served as Potions Master at the Durmstrang Institute. _____________________________________________________________ |
Professor Hamish Darrow, head of Hufflepuff House and instructor of Ancient Studies, will take over Mr. Prince’s role as Deputy Headmaster effective immediately. He began his tenure at Hogwarts in 1854, and says that he has “no intention” of retiring any time in the near future. Mr. Rutledge, a former Ravenclaw, graduated from Hogwarts in 1841, and spent some time as a tutor and working in a bookshop before taking the open History of Magic post in 1845. He would also eventually take up the position of Ravenclaw Head of House, which he also held until his retirement. Mr. Rutledge lives in Bartonburg with his family, and is reportedly continuing his work as a historian. As Hogwarts’ History of Magic professor, Mr. Rutledge will be replaced by Mr. Cuthbert Binns, an academic who has spent many years abroad and is recently returned to Britain. Meanwhile, the position of Ravenclaw Head of House is to be filled by Mr. Halvar Kirmani, who has served as Hogwarts’ Ancient Runes professor since 1884. AUTHOR: Gulliver Doran |
