< b>History:
Lothar was the first born child of Charles and Eleanor Edmundbyer, both half-bloods. His mother worked as a maid, his father as a labourer. Lothar was named after his father heard a well to do gentleman mention a Frankish (though he had no idea what that word meant) Emperor by the name. Lothar did not show signs of magic for longer than usual. On one hand his parents were relieved, they had scrimped and saved to be able to afford at least some years of Hogwarts schooling, if their children were squibs then that money could be used to buy some other vital things. They virtually lived without magic anyway. But neither of their children were squibs, and when it came to Lothar to head to Hogwarts he was told that it probably would not last too long.
Once he arrived, slightly jaded by the warning that he would probably not make it to his O.W.L. years, he was astounded. Though magical, his family lived almost like muggles, so Hogwarts was something else entirely. He was sorted into Hufflepuff. He made close friendly quickly, and it turned out he was a good student. He surprised himself with his abilities, and by the end of first year he was one of the best students in his year. During the year he learned of the scholarships available at Hogwarts, he could, as long as he was good enough, keep his schooling up!
He was awarded a full scholarship, something that would continue due to his high grades. All his parents had to pay for were robes, books and quills now. A huge difference. Though Lothar believes the need to always get excellent results is the source of his anxiety. Over the next few years Lothar saw a number of students forced out of Hogwarts due to economic issues, he thought it was entirely unfair, an archaic system that needed to be changed.
In 1877 the family moved to another tiny house in Hogsmeade. And a year later his father died. He was the victim of a wanted dark Wizard he tried to confront. His father, a brave and honourable man, was no match for the wizard in a duel, and was blow to pieces. The family were forced to move in with their mother's cousin, a small house in the slums, were seven of them lived in a two room house. His mother lost her job, unable to focus on anything but her late husband, Lothar buried himself in his books. He became obsessed by the law. Reading books on Wizarding law in the Hogwarts library, he decided he would pursue a future career in the subject. He would be able to prosecute criminals, like the man who killed his father, and protect the vulnerable.
Seven months after his death Lizzie went to Hogwarts. She was sorted into Hufflepuff too, and the school helped her cope with their loss. Her mother could not afford her tuition, and after her second year she had to drop out. She was, of course, disappointed, but she had wanted to be a maid in the future so her career plans were not changed. She desperately missed her friends, and looked forward to the schools Hogsmeade outings. She began work soon after.
Although racked with guilt that he was still at Hogwarts Lothar doubled down. He knew that he could help his family greatly if he became a skilled lawyer. In his O.W.L.S he got Os in all but a single exam, in Defence Against the Dark Arts he gained an E. Over the next few years his entire life was dedicated to his N.E.W.T.S studies. He found it exhausting, he stopped eating or sleeping properly, and was so anxious he was sick in the lead up to exams. Of course he was not the only student to suffer like that. His friend Arthur was vital to getting him through. Arthur and Lothar only started to talk to one another in their sixth year, but soon became incredibly close.
Lothar got straight Os in his N.E.W.T.S. And had a job lined up as an intern in the DMLE! Even as an intern he had more money than either of his parents had ever earned. He lived, rent free, in Arthur's large family home. Arthur, who had started the Auror training programme, was soon in love with a young receptionist in the department named Violet. Within a year they were married and Lothar was best man. Due to living rent free Lothar was able to send the majority of his salary back to his mother, the extra income helped relieve some of the pressure on them. After his first year he was promoted to Clerk. With the pay rise, and help from Arthur to make up the difference, Lothar was able to rent a modest Hogsmeade home for his family. With their new home, which was infinitely better than any previous place they had lived, Lothar felt like he had made a real difference. His mother and sister were able to find more solid employment, with a kindly middle class family, his mother being hired as a nanny.
During the year Lothar became interested in the writings of muggle author J.S Mill, and the late philosopher became very influential of his own thinking. A year later he was promoted again, now he was a fully fledged Lawyer! He had proven to have an incredible legal mind, an unrivalled memory and incredible Hufflepuff work ethic made him a superb lawyer. Along with his work for the DMLE he does pro bono work for the working class. With his new salary the family have moved to Bartonburg.
Lothar certainly has political aspirations, he is a very liberal man, supporting female suffrage and restructuring of society to alleviate struggles of the working class.
< b>Personality:Honest, intelligent, kind, work-obsessed, reliable, very anxious, politically liberal.
< b>Sample Roleplay Post:
''Hmmphf...ahhh. Okay...well Mr. Alderson I see why you have come to see me.'' Lothar carefully examined a series of parchment, slowly scanning each line over his circular spectacles. He passed the documents back to the short wizard sitting across from him in his simply decorated office. Mr. Alderson hastily folded the papers, and placed them in his pocket.
''So, can you help Mr. Edmindbyer?'' The man nervously fiddled with his hands. ''If the landlord has his way, well we wont have anything sir, out on the streets most likely.''
Lothar stroked his beard. ''Of course, from the look of the documents he has no right to throw you out Sir. I shall write him a letter immediately, stating why he cannot proceed. There was a case seventeen years ago Alderwhistle v Silverstone, that sets precedent, so don't worry. The law is on your side."
The man was visibly relived. "Now, have some tea."
