Appearance: Flowing blonde hair. Thin as a rake. Handsome, with sharp cheekbones. Green eyes. 5’9.

History:
1860: Born the oldest son of Wilbur and Georgiana Crouch he lives a life of luxury from birth.

1862: Jasper and Susannah are born, but Ethan is too busy being the king of the nursery to notice that much. Later though he will spend some of his youth being very sad that he doesn’t have a twin too.

1864: Freddie is born and Ethan feels slightly better because Freddie is a lone wolf like him!

1867: Gillian is born and becomes Ethan’s favourite sibling when his first sign of magic is moving her around the carpet so she can chase the cat. She is delighted. His parents are furious. The floor gets a polish. All of the siblings spend many happy hours playing together and become a very close unit.

1872: After a remarkably coddled and happy childhood Ethan receives his Hogwarts letter and attends the school that year, being sorted into Gryffindor much to his joy. Here surely he can find other heroes to socialise with!

1872-79: Ethan is a middling student, at best, though his problem is more lack of attention than being stupid. He plays Quidditch, is rather good, but doesn’t have the discipline to train properly so that does not last long. His best subject by far is, bizarrely, Divination, given his capacity for accepting almost everything as being fact and that he has a skill for wild speculation. He becomes much happier when one by one his siblings join him, apart from Gillian, who never displays magic much to the families sorrow, but he makes many friends, including Esteban Zavala, who will one day be his roommate.

It is during his schooling that Ethan discovers for the first time that poor people exist. His family are not notably aggressive blood or social purists, but they do keep to their own kind and as much Ethan has never before encountered people who aren’t just like him. He finds everything about it fascinating and socialises with muggles and muggleborns from every class and though he has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth by asking silly questions of them he is so well meaning they forgive him. As he matures he develops his beliefs until, at 18 and leaving Hogwarts with reasonable if unspectacular results, he announces that he wishes to live amongst the people.

The people being Esteban.

1879: Ethan lives with Esteban in London and pursues a career as a journalist, seeing it as a means to something he can’t yet put his finger on. His father finds his lifestyle embarrassing and tries to give him money so he and Esteban can live in a much more lavish style but Ethan rejects the money and any future help.

1881-1883: It is during this period that Esteban first takes Ethan to the activist group and Ethan sees Erin Morgan for the first time. He falls hopelessly in love but is still somewhat tongue-tied whenever he is around her. If only he could talk to her as he does Eileen – then things would be much easier!

Personality: Dreamer. Flighty. Good-hearted. Romantic. Slightly irresponsible. Holds true to his beliefs.
