Tilda was exhausted. After throwing her knives in the basement for target practice, she headed up to the kitchens to see if perhaps the cook might make her a snack. Dressed in only a skirt and shirt, Tilda took the steps two at a time. That was what she loved about her house – the rules for decorum and presentation were very little, as long as she kept up proper appearances outside the house. For Tilda, that was a fair bargain. Of course, everyone seemed to expect the worst from her family, so why would it matter to them anyways?

As she walked into the kitchen, Tilda only found herself craving an apple, which she grabbed from an obliging basket near the sink. A small twitter of annoyance made itself known from behind her, and she spun around. There, was a Hogwarts owl, with a letter for her. No doubt her school supply letters. But…it looked bigger than last time… Bitting into the apple to keep her hands free, Tilda loosened the parcel from the owl and gave it a few good strokes on the head before directing her attention to the letter.

There was something heavy in it… Tilda couldn’t think of anything they’d give her, so she tore the letter open. Out tumbled a shiny prefect badge. A prefect badge....Utterly shocked, Tilda stood at the table, staring at the badge for a good 2 minutes before moving again. This time, she read the letter, over and over again. It said her name. Mathilda MacFusty.....pleased to inform you....prefect....Gryffindor.....duties....best of luck...... But why in Merlin’s name were they choosing her? She was a MacFusty, her family’s reputation was as good as middle class, maybe upper, if they could swing it…

The girl was about to run to her parents, when she realized they were out for the day. But she had to tell someone, and now! The solution came to her easily, and she darted out of the room, hastily putting on more proper clothes and dashed to the fireplace. She clutched the letter and badge in her hand so tightly the paper was cracking, and the medal, putting an imprint in her hand. But what if they disappeared and this was all a dream? Tilda had to find out. Throwing in some floo powder, Tilda called, “Lewes Castle!” and stepped into it.

When the spinning stopped, Tilda staggered out of the fireplace, and began shouting. Perhaps her mother was here? “Ma?! DA?! Aunt Griz! Uncle Ald!! ANYONE?!” she couldn’t help but sound panicked, wondering if this was some sick joke someone was playing on her.

@Cassius Lestrange – remember when I said I'd get this thread up tonight...like 5 days ago? Lets pretend that actually happened and I didn't get swamped by school >.>

The baby had spent most of the morning screaming for no reason and though Mac had an abundance of patience for his daughter, he also really didn't know what to do in cases like this - so he had left her with the nanny for a few hours and taken off to Lews Castle, mostly for the sole reason that he did not, actually, have anything better to do. He needed more hobbies.

He was in the hallway when he heard the sound of his cousin shouting from the next room. Mac ran into it - she was yelling, and he had sort of come to associate such desperate yelling with ultimate disaster - only to found an ultimately unharmed-looking (but perhaps slightly sooty) Tilda.

He cocked his head at her.

"Ye all right there, Tilda? What's happening?" Mac asked, confusion evident in his tone. He gave her another look-over, as if to just make sure that she was not missing any limbs - she definitely had not been mauled by anything. That was good, but meant that he honestly had no idea what was wrong with her - oh.

It looked like she was holding a letter?

It still didn't make any sense to Mac.

"What've ye got there?" he added.

There was a moment between Tilda yelling and her cousin bursting in looking ready to fight a dragon where she felt bad for sending him into a panic. She couldn't exactly stay calm about it though, she was in such shock. "Ah...." it took her a moment to collect her thoughts. "Ah just received this laetter..."

She moved her hand in front of her along with the Prefect badge. She suddenly lost her voice in trying to explain what had happened. It still didn't make any sense to her why she'd been chosen.

Mac quickly read through the letter and glanced at the shiny prefect's badge, as if to verify that both were real and had actually been mailed to her. Then, his face broke into a wide grin.

"You're a prefect!" he exclaimed brightly, pulling his cousin in for a quick hug, "You've got to be the first in the family!" This was excellent news! She'd be brilliant, he was sure of it - or at least she'd definitely be better than he would have been!

He grinned! That meant she wasn't seeing things, it wasn't likely to be a joke! Elated, Tilda buried her face in her hands, leaning into Mac when he gave her a hug. They picked her of all the people in her class, they picked her. This wasn't real. She attempted to pinch herself, but that didn't exactly help. Oooohhh she didn't want to cry, not now. It was too embarrassing. Cheeks flushed pink, she beamed at Mac. "Ahm a prefect!" she exclaimed, throwing her hands up in the air. It took all her will to not bounce up and down in excitement, but then she remembered it was Mac, he wouldn't care, so she did it anyways. "Ahm a prefect!" she repeated, as if saying it more would further validate it's reality.

"Ah cannae believe this – why me?" she asked, feeling a bit faint. "There – there are many others who qualify as well!"

Mac grinned at his cousin's obvious excitement. He was genuinely thrilled about this, too - Tilda would make an excellent prefect, he was just sure of it. His cousin followed the rules, but she was also understanding - and brave and kind and all the other things that made for a good Gryffindor and a good authority figure.

"Clearly they don't qualify as well as ye do!" Mac said, grinning almost cheekily at her.

"Ah just cannae believe this!" Tilda wanted to pinch herself to make sure it wasn't just a dream. And then came the worry, and the smile slipped slightly from her face. She looked at Mac, eyes wide as saucers. "Mac....what if.....what if Ah'm not good enough?" the thought made her almost squeak. "Ah doen't want te disappoint ma and da."

Mac pulled Tilda into a tight hug. "Ye are going to do fine," he promised, "And even if ye don't, your parents will be proud of ye anyways." He thought she'd be just fine, though - Tilda had a good head on her shoulders, and she was kind. That was important, and the first part already set her above several students and much of the family.

Mac was right. Ma and Da would still love her no matter what. She knew she put a lot of pressure on herself to do well and to put the family name into a somewhat better light. She hugged her cousin back, grateful for his strong support. “Thanks, Mac.” The smile and giddiness was coming back to her. It would be a fun year. “Still, I hope I can do well…”

Mac grinned at his younger cousin and gave her one encouraging clap on the back. "Ye are going to do great," he said, "I promise." He had faith in her - and clearly so did her Head of House! This was definitely going to be interesting, but he really was convinced that she wouldn't fail.

She was Tilda MacFusty. She wasn't going to fail.

It meant so much to her that she had Mac's support. It made her hopeful that her parents would have as much confidence in her as he did. Flush with excitement, Tilda giggled. "Thanks a heap, Mac." she said, eyes bright. "Ah'm so glad I could tell ye!"

@Cassius Lestrange wanna wrap, maybe? :)
