IS MR. SKEETER MAD?
A RESPONSE TO MR SKEETER'S CASE AGAINST WOMEN'S DUELING |
I was appalled to read your interview with Mr. Barnabas Skeeter in a recent issue of this paper. I, of course, believe that everybody deserves the right to free speech, but Mr. Skeeter's opinions are so absurd that I cannot believe the Daily Prophet chose to print them! I myself have participated in several duelling tournament and can say, with confidence, that my 'competitive spirit' has yet to go to my head. I have returned, after each competition, to my professional responsibilities and to my husband, no worse for wear for participating. And that Mr. Skeeter can cite incidents featured in this very paper as justification for his ludicrous proposition is as ridiculous as his appointment as Dueling Commission Head of Office! _____________________________________________________________ |
There have surely been twice as many incidents of violence between men detailed in these pages than silly spats between transfiguration-happy debutantes who by no means serve as a true representative of the average, sensible, law-abiding female citizen. As for the skills we acquire at Hogwarts, with an apparent 'debutante killer' on the loose and Azkaban prisoners occasionally running amok it should be considered vital that young women are schooled in how to defend themselves. If not, they are far more likely to lose their lives than they are to lose their heads if their participation in dueling tournaments were (as it should!) to continue. AUTHOR: AN APPALLED CITIZEN |
