    The Tortoise and the Hare
    #5
“If you say so,” Sephey responded with a slight chuckle at August’s smug response, not quite believing that he had been thoroughly examining his Herbology textbook, but she refrained from making her assumptions known - there was no need to scold him for a task that he evidently disliked, but she was still confident that it would be something he would benefit from if he tried - which she was glad to note he seemed to be doing. It was the effort put forth into studying that counted, after all.

However, what she was not pleased to note was that, once again, she could not seem to stay annoyed with him for long. Her irritation at his lack of focus had dispersed as fast as it had come, and she could quite comprehend as to the reason why this continued to occur. Indeed, he possessed that personality in which was difficult to detest (unless one counted his vexing obsession with Quidditch), but she had never believed that a person could be quite so likeable that it would render it impossible to be continuously furious at.

Heaving an inaudible sigh, and running one of her fingers along the spine of one of the thick volumes adjacent her, Persephone listened respectfully to his explanation of his respective wand wood, and she could not resist the smile that widened with each word. Once again, he had managed to make Quidditch relevant to the conversation at hand, and she could not help but be endlessly amused by it. He really was a Quidditch fanatic at heart, and it was with a tiny laugh and a shake of her head at his obvious delight of his conclusion that she answered in a complimenting tone, “Hornbeam is a very good wand. They are most suited to those with capacious personalities - which I very much believe you possess - so it is not just your obsession with Quidditch that the wand chose you, but your overall personality, as well.”

“And interestingly enough,” Persephone continued, remembering a conversation that had occurred during one of her Ancient Studies lectures, “Hornbeam does not follow the Celtic calender, which is often used to match wand woods to people of magical blood according to their birthdays.”
