"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
Sharing a free block with Ced was one of the best parts of their sixth year. Also excellent was the fact that they usually had a class together afterwards - if they got launched into a conversation during their study, which was frequently the case, they could continue until they made it to class and the chat had to make its way to being through notes.
"I'm just saying, a rumor doesn't mean that it's true!" Zelda protested, "Not that I am, of course, disputing your tendency to know everything about everyone - you're like a gossiping little bird of some sort, have I ever told you tha -"
Her books spilled from her arms as Zelda discovered with a lurch that she was stuck to the floor.
"Okay, what the hell," she said, wriggling in the spot and noticing neither the mistletoe nor the note on the floor.
Oh, he knew better than to believe every rumour, but he liked to think that by now he could recognize the truth.
“Oh, I know,” Ced commented smugly as he looked upwards in a swag sort of way that he was sure that Cousin Frederick would approve of. He even went about doing Cousin Frederick’s iconic ‘brushing my hair back with my hand’ when he suddenly couldn’t move and his hand got stuck in his hair.
Zelda snorted at Ced's pose. His attempts at impressing girls were as amusing to her as they were unattractive.
"This is what happens when you're an idiot," she said, momentarily amused - until she tilted her head downwards (maybe the missing steps in the staircases had migrated to being in the floor?) and discovered a note there.
She read the note, tilted her head up, and swore under her breath in an entirely unladylike fashion.
Ced rolled his eyes dramatically, but he knew that she was right. That was a pretty idiotic attempt at swagness and he’d have to sit and practice Cousin Frederick’s hair brushing thing so he wouldn’t embarrass himself in front of Cousin Frederick or worse, Miss McKinnon.
“What is it?” he asked but before she could answer he took the note and read it himself.
"This is the worst," Zelda whined once Cedric had finished reading the note. She attempted to stomp on the ground to emphasize her point but found that her feet were still stuck in place, and had to grab his arm to keep from falling over though she dropped it as soon as she had restabilized.
“Hey!” Ced protested but he had to pause when she grabbed his arm before he could continue. “Hey it could be worse, I could have had bad breath, but I don’t!”
Zelda rolled her eyes. "That's not the point," she whined, loudly. She couldn't believe that she had to kiss Cedric - he was like another brother, this wasn't fair at all!
"It's worth a try," she said, and she stood on her tiptoes (and tugged on the lapels of his robes to drag him down with her) so she could plant a kiss on Ced's cheek.
A wince flashed through Ced’s face when his friend had to grab onto his shirt. In many ways, it felt as if they were standing on the edge of some deadly cliff, instead of being pinned to the ground.
“Well, we now know what to do,” he commented. “Let’s do it now, before someone comes and sees us. I can do it if you’re too shy!”
Nevermind that he had never kissed someone either and the whole prospect made him feel awkward.
It was the 'if you're too shy' that pushed Zelda to do it.
Without thinking - thinking, of course, meant that she would talk herself out of it - she grabbed Cedric by the lapels of his robes, stood slightly on her toes, and planted a quick kiss on his lips.
And then of course she immediately let go of him and stepped backwards, putting space between them as she wiped her mouth off on her sleeve because ew.
"I don't have cholera, don't worry!" Ced said with a light roll of his eyes. He shared his friend's... awkwardness? though. He'd rather not repeat what had happened. Kissing Zelda felt like kissing Laura (ew) or something.
Thankfully, they didn't run into any other Peeves traps for the rest of the day.
