    Dress guide the season!
It is little over a month until the season shall begin, and time to be getting in orders for the gowns and necessary accessories. New debutantes will require a whole new wardrobe, of course, but the rest of the ladies of society can just update their wardrobe for the new season. The most esteemed ladies of society shall need on average five changes of clothing a day- a morning dress, a walking dress for paying calls or visiting, an afternoon dress, a dinner dress and then a dress for the visit to the theatre or the ball. A lady should have no fewer than five dinner dresses, four classic ballgowns and two special ballgowns- which may only be worn once or twice, lest their charm should dull- at any time in their wardrobe. Of course, ladies of more modest budgets less are needed, but it is always the best advice to aspire to such truly elegant taste!

Fabrics are decided mainly by your age and position.
As always, debutantes are advised to stick to only the palest tones for their first season, in only the lightest and most elegant tulles and fragile gauzes. Debutantes on their second season forward should chose largely pastel tones- avoiding lavender, of course, for it’s mourning connotations- making sure there is enough to distinguish between them and their younger counterparts. For the ladies, of society silks in jewel tones are greatly favoured, and the deepest velvets and broderies are reserved for the true matriarchs and socialites.

The most important gowns a lady will have are the ballgowns for the grandest occasions. These should be true works of art, with no expense spared! Moving embroidery and lighter-than-air charms on the layers of gossamer are de rigueur. Such gowns are reserved for the Coming Out Ball and the largest balls- though, of course, for the Coming Out Ball care should be taken to make a more understated appearance lest you overshadow the new debutantes, which is in the most poor taste. Such dresses should be worn twice at most (with alterations each time), after which they may be reformed into less impressive gowns. It is not unusual for a lady to get through five or six each season, at great cost each time.
General ball and evening gowns should be chosen to withstand the rigors of the season.
Fortunately, most gowns for the season can be worn more times. The dresses for the dinners, operas and smaller balls should be made with no less care, but should be designed so that they can be altered many times to keep them fresh, which when rotated may see a lady through two or three seasons. Colours should be appropriate for the age and rank of the lady. Low necked and short sleeved are the staples for most ladies’ ballgowns, though older ladies may opt for longer sleeves. Dinner dresses are advised to be long sleeved and low-necked. Younger ladies may wear shorter sleeved ballgown styles to the opera, however tradition normally mandates styles much more similar to dinner dresses, designed to catch the low light of the theatre in the most attractive way possible.

Even the day-dresses for the season should be made with the utmost care and attention to fashion. It would simply not do to meet a charming young gentleman whilst wearing a dress handed down from an elder sister or anything but the most fashionable riding habit! Jewellery for the daytime should be kept to the bare minimum lest you appear nouveau riche and brash, and whilst ladies have more freedom in the colours worn they should suit the lady perfectly.

Many a fine dress has been ruined by the choice of accessories. Diamonds are only for evening wear and for the Coming Out Ball should be only worn by debutantes, as should pearls, and in all jewels elegant styles are always favoured over ostentatious ones. Gloves should only be of the finest quality you can afford, but shoes are so seldom seen that they should be chosen for comfort first- a limp whilst dancing is most undesirable.

"Admirably, she managed to balance both her duties as a healer, as well as those of a wife and mother." Meet The Newest Head of the Magical Bugs Department, Mrs. Annabelle Bones!
Very recently, the Magical Bugs Department of the Hogsmeade Hospital gained a new Head. No other, but Mrs. Annabelle Bones! Considering that she has been a healer for nearly a decade, it is no surprise that she was chosen for this so important position!

    Mrs. Annabelle Bones

Mrs. Annabelle Bones was born Miss Annabelle Amelia Longbotton to Eldin and Hermione Longbottom on August 24th, 1850. She was the eldest of eight children. With her also being the eldest of seven sisters, you can imagine what great responsibility she held upon her shoulders! Regardless, Mrs. Bones proved to be an excellent eldest sister and role model to her six younger sisters.

During her time at Hogwarts, she was sorted into Slytherin. An excellent student, Mrs. Bones achieved high marks during both her OWLs and NEWTs!

After her graduation, she married the late Mr. Henry Bones. They made an amicable match that produced five children; Miss Rosamund Bones, one of Hufflepuff’s current prefects at Hogwarts, Mr. Eldin Bones, a current third year at Hogwarts, Miss Vesta Bones, a current first year at Hogwarts and lastly, Mr. Justice Bones, who was sadly born after his father’s death, in the autumn of 1884. The couple’s fifth child, Mr. Arthur Bones, sadly died in infancy.

Mrs. Annabelle Bones was one of the many healers that started working for Hogsmeade’s Hospital in 1877. Admirably, she managed to balance both her duties as a healer, as well as those of a wife and mother. We are sure that her newest promotion will not change that in the slightest!

Our community is truly in luck to have such admirable and talented women taking care of our health! Let us all wish Mrs. Bones good luck on her new position.

They might not be exact, but these predictions may help your child (and you) prepare! Predict Your Child's Hogwarts House!
While it is impossible to know for sure what house a child will be sorted into when they attend Hogwarts, it is possible to make a few educated guesses. Here at Witch Weekly, we understand that parents may have specific hopes for their children, and we are here to help you prepare--and perhaps make adjustments--by advising you on what house best suits your child based on their Zodiac sign.

Aries (March 21 - April 19) Aries are characterized as independent and courageous, and often make fine leaders--our own Minister is an Aries! If your child is a typical independent Aries, they might be best suited in Gryffindor.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20) Those born under Taurus are known for their dependability and loyalty, and are know for their ability to persevere. A child born of this sign is likely to be in Hufflepuff.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20) Gemini are often witty, clever and adaptable, and can be fiercely independent. Children born under Gemini may find themselves as atypical Ravenclaws or perhaps in Gryffindor.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22) If your child was born under Cancer, they are likely to be loyal, caring sorts who are quite adaptable. They may tend to be a little moody at times, but they would likely do well in Hufflepuff.

Leo (July 23 - August 22) Leos are known for their confidence and ambition. They often have a contagious enthusiasm for their passions. If your child is a typical, ambitious Leo, he or she might find themselves in Slytherin.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22) Virgos tend to be analytical and observant, and can be easily relied upon. Those born under this sign are likely to find themselves in Ravenclaw.

Libra (September 23 - October 22) Those born under Libra are characterized as being idealistic and diplomatic, and are often those who seek adventure. They might do well in Gryffindor.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21) Often passionate and resourceful, Scorpios are known for getting things done once they've put their minds to it. If your child is a typical Scorpio, they might do well in Slytherin.

Saggitarius (November 22 - December 21) Those born under Saggitarius are very independent, and often make decisions based on what is best for them and their individual needs. They do make, loyal, selfless friends, however, which makes them likely candidates for Hufflepuff.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19) Capricorns are responsible and ambitious, and are often quite self-disciplined. They would do quite well in Slytherin.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18) Witty and inventive, those born under Aquarius are often most interested in getting their own way. Their cleverness, however, make them well-suited for Ravenclaw.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20) Those born under Pisces are compassionate and imaginative, and adapt easily to different environments. Such people may do well in Hufflepuff.

Of course, these may not be exact--some people are more typical of their sign than others, after all--but it may help soothe the worries of your future first years!
