SEPTEMBER 30TH 1885
LETTER TO THE EDITOR
IN DEFENSE OF ROXANNE |
Dear Mr. Editor, Or rather, Mr. Doran, for it is he who reviewed the literary masterpiece by Mr. Havers. I found your scathing review of Mr. Havers' book to be quite offensive. I am newly married and purchased a copy of Mr. Havers' book shortly before my nuptials in hopes of a good book to quell the inevitable anxiety of a bride to be. Well, I must say I found it a wonderful read. It both soothed my nerves and provided me with great insight into the sacred commitment I was soon to take. It is a marvelous book that is sure to be of great interest and insight to young ladies married and _____________________________________________________________ |
unmarried. In fact, I have recommended it to all of my dearest friends most fervently. Consequently, I find it quite hard to believe that Mr. Doran truly understood the material with which he read, nor am I wholly convinced he read the book cover to cover. I ardently hope that Mr. Havers does not die in poverty, or at all prematurely, and that he goes on to write a great many more books which receive the due celebration they deserve. While Mr. Doran might be a respected writer for the Prophet, I do wonder if he can be respected as a reader with good taste. AUTHOR: MRS. WELL-READ |
