3pm is too Early for Some People

Lou required new gloves, as her old pair had become too worn out from overuse. A simple errand, one she expected to finish quickly and without much effort. She knew what she was looking for, after all.

It was as Louisa was making her way back towards the front of the shop, however, that things derailed somewhat. Someone came staggering down the aisle, moving erratically so that Lou had to jump out of the way as they suddenly veered toward her. "Are you, er, all right?" Louisa asked, trying to sidestep around them.

Although Jon was relatively used to apparition-based incidents, he was not used to test-takers falling directly on his head. In a job where almost everything had happened at least once, this had never happened to him before.

The world was extremely fuzzy, and he was having some trouble with his depth perception. When the woman asked him if he was alright, Jon flailed one arm out to grasp at a shelf for balance, and missed horrendously.

    "Sure," he said vaguely.

Louisa moved around the man, keeping a safe distance as she eyed him skeptically. He looked... not well. Lou's first instinct was to assume the man was drunk--he was moving rather erratically, after all.

"Are you quite sure?" she asked. "Perhaps you should find a place to sit down." He would surely be less of a disaster waiting to happen if he was off his feet. One would hope.

Maybe sitting would help. He had never felt like this before, and his thoughts were utterly in a fog.

Jon looked for a chair, but gave up - the lights were far too bright - and instead grabbed onto the top of a shelf and sunk slightly. "This is sitting," he replied, staring slightly past her.

Dear Merlin. Lou knew that she ought to just leave the man there. He was hardly her responsibility, after all. Still, like a fool, altruism won out over good common sense. She sighed heavily and said, "I will go find you a proper chair." Before he inevitably broke something. Either the shelf or himself. "Just... stay where you are."

Jon nodded, but stood up to follow after her. His listening comprehension was not entirely there at the moment, and his eyes were a little bit slow in focusing on her.

Lou made to leave, but stopped when the man stood up. "What are you doing?" she asked suspiciously. She was not of a mind to trust anything this man did as sensible at the moment.

Jon blinked at her, nice and slow. "Where are we going?" he asked, more than slightly absent. How had he ended up here, anyways? He was supposed to be - at work. What had happened at work?

(The office was probably running equally well without him.)

Louisa resisted the urge to sigh with exasperation. Merlin help her. "We are not going anywhere," she said firmly. "You are staying right where you are while I find you a chair." She didn't think she ought to be so punished for trying to be kind. Honestly.

"We aren't? I am?" Jon said dumbly. He settled back in against the shelf and promptly became distracted by a pair of dragon-hide gloves; this, at least, meant that he was no longer trying to follow her.

"Yes," Lou said firmly, before turning to continue her search. Thankfully, the man seemed to get the point, because he didn't try to follow after her. More mercifully still, she found a chair near the front of the shop. It was too heavy for her to carry in any sort of ladylike fashion, so Lou levitated it back to where the man was still waiting. Miraculously. "Here you are."
