    Birds of a Feather
Balls have always been a much look forward to event, and the first one of the season did not disappoint. Set to raise money for different birds, and as expected, bird themed dresses were quite popular that night. In high society, the goal is to stand out, and Miss Eva Sleptova and Miss Natsuko Mountbatton both were the stars of the night with their boldly colored dresses. With Miss Moutbatton signature Eastern style of dress, favoring her home country's style and Miss Sleptova's tradition, western dress, both themed after the same bird, they drew the eyes of everyone.

It was a brilliant idea on the part of the two to work together, along with their designers, to collaborate on peacock themed dress - a bird which originates from Asian countries but has become a popular image within the recent decades here in the West. The pairing shows a regality that we have not yet seen before. It was a well thought out choice that clearly paid off and I cannot think of a better set of two to pull off the look. The best of luck to the two girls and we, at Witch Weekly, look forwards to seeing the duo together at their next event and are even more excited to see exactly what the two hold up their sleeves to surprise and dazzle us next.

With such a wide variety of dresses available, and with so much importance placed on one's Coming Out gown, it is especially prudent to consider the advice of one so well versed in fashion as Mr. Marcus Lytton, founder of the famous House of Lytton in Diagon Alley. Marcus Lytton on Choosing the Best Coming Out Gown

With the Hogwarts Coming Out nearly upon us, and with perhaps half a dozen privately hosted balls to follow over the course of the season, we at Witch Weekly thought it indispensable to run an article on how to choose the best Coming Out gown to make one's debut. In lieu of one of our typically quizzes, however, we went to speak with famous fashion designer and founder of House of Lytton, Mr. Marcus Lytton, to hear his much more delicate and subtle thoughts on the matter.

"A coming out dress should, first and foremost, compliment a girl's personality," Mr. Lytton advised. "Many mothers and guardians make the mistake of not allowing their girls to have an opinion as to what they will wear. If a girl isn't comfortable in her dress, it will show. So, if she wished to have flowers embroidered on them, let her have flowers, even if they're not that in that season!" While this advice may be painful to the more fashion-forward mothers and older sisters among our readers, it is doubtless very sound advice. There is nothing more likely to set a lady wrong on her first impressions than an expression of temerity or a showing of poor nerves, so every allowance must be made to make your newest debutantes feel confident; otherwise, they will invariably show themselves to be poor company for any man they meet!

A wide variety of dress styles on display in a London parlor.

"That being said, a lady should be careful to pick shapes and patterns that compliment her," Mr. Lytton continued. "We must be realistic with fashion - no matter how much we like a certain style, it might not often look good on us. So it's really a combination, of technical tricks that help bring out a lady's appearance's strengths, as well as personality." These 'technical tricks' Mr. Lytton speaks of comprise almost a hundred different little elements which may be added to or taken from a dress in order that it should become more flattering, and are as much a mystery to the non-tailors among us as magic is to Muggles!

The best course of action is to consult a tailor or designer, as your budget allows, early and often. Not only will they be able to create something that is not only wonderfully suiting to your daughter or sister, but they are also very well experienced in gently guiding a stubbornly unfashionable girl towards something more flattering. Remember, a Coming Out only happens once--spare no expense in finding your dress!

The Great Debut Approaches: Lovely Ladies Joining Society This Season (Part One)
Their schooling is now entirely behind them and the official Hogwarts Coming Out Ball is a scant few days away! Get ready to meet this season's newest debutantes. Here are a few that we at Witch Weekly are looking forward to seeing coming down that staircase...

Miss Aamiya Peverell comes from a family of noted English purebloods, one of only two girls born to Mister Antioch Peverell, former head of the department of Education, and his wife, the former Miss Bainbridge.  Aamiya is supported in her entry into society by her older sister Hepzibah Smith, who herself came out to great success, a few years ago.  We certainly hope that Miss Aamiya has as much success in securing a partner in life as her sister, and we are sure that she will be just as successful as her sister in her hunt for future happiness.

The Misses Araminta and Arabelle Scrimgeour, the twin daughters of noted pureblood gentleman Charles Scrimgeour, have not had the easiest route to the debut. With the kidnapping of Miss Arabelle at only a few months old, the pair were only reunited when they started at Hogwarts.  Any potential gentleman suitor will have choice between the matching pair, as the indentical twin sisters are striking looking young ladies.  However, Miss Araminta might fare a little easier than her sister given that she has had the most consistent society education.

Miss January Lynch is a Gryffindor pureblood, coming out this year, sponsored by mother Mrs. Romilda Lynch. Has three older sisters (February, 21, November, 19, September, 18) and one younger, none with prospects, February Lynch infamously broke her courtship with Mathias Beaumont back in 1885.  Let us hope that Miss January Lynch has learned from her sisters mistakes not to turn ones nose up at a respectable match when offered.  As all young ladies should remember – graces fade!

Miss Ottaline Moody - the purblooded Slytherin lady is coming out this year, sponsored by mother Mrs. Moody, and supported in society by her elder sister Mrs Circe Podmore. Has three older sisters (Mrs. Circe Podmore, Mrs. Elfrida Lassey, and Josephina De Morose).  The youngest of Moody lady met a gentleman while abroad last fall and married mere months ago and now lives in sunnier climes.  With all three senior Moody girls proving successful in society, and securing noteworthy matches there is significant pressure on the latest Miss Moody to follow in her sisters footsteps.  < /td>

Miss Aamiya Peverell, Hufflepuff, should do well in society with all of her graces.

Miss Araminta Scrimgeour, Slytherin…or is this Anabelle, from Gryffindor....

Hopefully Miss January Lynch, Gryffindor, won’t make the same mistakes as her older sister.

Miss Ottiline Moody, Gryffindor, has big shoes to fill but every chance of success.

One of many letters we received in response to our feature last week!

One of Miss Lovegood's few supporters wrote in as well!

A Citizen brings up a very valid point considering Minister Urquart's uncertain judgement!
    Letters From Our Readers
                Dear Witch Weekly,
I was absolutely shocked to hear about Minister Urquart involving himself with Miss Lovegood. I did not take him for a rash or spontaneous man--a man of government should never be either of those things, and Mr. Urquart has long since outgrown the time in which such traits are charming in young men--but as I have hardly ever seen him in Miss Lovegood's company prior to your article, I can only say that this lowers my opinion of him and his sensibilities a good deal. It would almost be a relief, at this point, to hear he had indeed been taken in by some surreptition or even a love potion--though of course it would be very unfortunate for Minister Urquart and his family, at least it would demonstrate that his good sense has not been entirely compromised!
                Disappointed & Disheartened

                Dear Witch Weekly,
It is a sorry state of affairs indeed when even the Minister cannot make a personal decision unjudged. Gossips will, of course, always gossip- but I have always found there to be a line between idle talk and slanderous and provocative judgement in the most distasteful and public manner. To think the Minister would bring anyone he considered unworthy into the home of his six children he obviously loves so dearly is a grave insult to his judgement- and surely, by extension, the judgement of the majority who elected him?
                Delightfully Unconcerned

               To Witch Weekly,
I was so horrified by the suggestion in the last issue that Minister Urquart may have fallen under some untoward influence. If he really is being fed a love potion, could we not suppose that his judgement has been compromised in a great deal of other matters, and not just where Miss Lovegood is concerned? I would think it only prudent if Minister Urquart set aside his government duties until the issue of whether he is being fed any magical potions can be resolved!
