Kayline Prewett v. Pandora Winterdowne

Valkyria was quite familiar with both of the contestants. She remembered Miss Prewett from the previous round, while Miss Winterdowne was her niece’s daughter and while Valkyria had never really spent time with the girl out of class, she had met her mother on various occasions in the past.

She lazily went over the rules - was there really a need to repeat them on the second round? - and then turned to the Gryffindor. “Miss Prewett, you may cast when ready.”

Kayline curtsied to Miss Winterdowne, then turned a button into a butterfly.

  

[Pandora Winterdowne]

• Pandora was quite excited to have progressed to the second round of the tournament—and even more excited that her father had come to watch! She was far beyond being squeamish at his missing legs, though the Hufflepuff had noticed a couple of her yearmates giving her ghostly parent peculiar looks. Regardless, the fourth year was eager to impress!
  
  Carefully, she stepped out of her shoes before tapping her wand on them and murmuring the incantation she had read. If successful, they would be charmed to dance on their own!

Miss Winterdowne’s display was better than Miss Prewett’s. Not only it was flawlessly executed, Miss Winterdowne seemed to be quite enthusiastic about the tournament herself. While Valkyria was not a dueling enthusiast, she didn’t like the students who looked so bored - it wasn’t as if duels were mandatory!

“Miss Winterdowne wins the first round!” Valkyria announced. “She may also start the second.”

[Pandora Winterdowne]

• Dora grinned at her translucent father, pleased to have done so well in the first round. It was too early to celebrate properly though; composing herself, the Hufflepuff set about transfiguring those same shoes into glass slippers reminiscent of Cinderella’s.

Kayline raised her wand again and transfigured the butterfly into a rose.

Miss Winterdowne’s shoes were almost perfectly transfigured. Miss Prewett’s display was slightly better than the first round, but the petals of her rose still looked a bit like butterfly wings.

“Miss Winterdowne wins the duel, as well as five points to Hufflepuff!” Valkyria announced. The girl had clearly not inherited her maternal grandparents’ wit.
