    Angus MacFusty v. Eleora Etherium
    #1
    • These next contestants had both performed excellently in the previous duels he'd seen and judged them in, so William was having trouble anticipating which of them would perform the best. Mr. MacFusty would have to face a dummy this round, of course, which might make the difference.

"Congratulations on advancing so far in the tournament," He greeted cheerfully. "When you are both ready, Mr. MacFusty may cast, followed by Mrs. Etherium's display."

Oh dear, he wasn't so confident about dueling a woman. Spells for a target that wasn't going to fight back weren't so easy and Miss Etherium was sure to outdo him where aesthetics were concerned. Hopefully Mr. Prewett wasn't so easily swayed by pretty displays.

With a flourish of his wand, Gus made an attempt to propel the dummy violently across the room. He didn't feel it was as impressive as other spells he had used throughout the competition so far but a stationary target was not so easy to be imaginative with.

With a bow for Mr. MacFusty (not the one that Mrs. Violet MacFusty was wed to), Eleora turned her attention to Mr. Prewett and conjured glitter falling around her; she then transfigured motes of glitter into snow flakes, one winking into the other.

    • Whilst perhaps not the most creative, it was hard to argue that MacFusty's spell was not extremely effective. Mrs. Etherium's transfiguration was simple as well, and though certainly seasonal, it did not have quite the same impact.

"A powerful spell from Mr. MacFusty sees the first point in his favour. Mrs. Etherium, if you will!"

Well, that was disappointing, but Eleora would only have to redouble her efforts. Raising her wand, she blew the little snowflakes into a pile and transfigured them into an ice unicorn.

Mrs. Etherium was really quite good at pretty spells, Gus thought. She was prettier still but that was another matter. As for his choice of spell, he was still struggling to adapt to the dummy - he had gotten very used to dueling men. "Diffindo!" he aimed to slice the dummy into pieces.

    • Both spells were, predictably, successful again, but it was a tough choice between them. Having to make a decision, William decided he was more impressed with Mrs. Etherium's ice unicorn, as she had certainly raised her game between rounds. "The second round to Mrs. Etherium, which leaves us in need of a tiebreaker! Mr. MacFusty, if you will."

He was either going to lose this next round or by some miracle make it to the next one which might be the final - he couldn't recall. Either way, he'd be very happy with how far he got if he did lose though he wasn't sure he wanted people to know he lost to a woman, pretty as she was. Whatever happened, he decided he wanted to go out with a bang. Literally. He waved his wand, intending for the dummy to explode.

With a final wave of her wand, Eleora transfigured her unicorn into a dragon, wings unfurled; if all went perfectly, it would breath flame of ice as well.

    • The tiebreaker sent things wildly out of balance once more, though the scales had tipped in the opposite direction since the first round: this time, MacFusty's explosion went awry, which only served to make the ice-breathing dragon all the more impressive. "And with that, we conclude the duel! You've both performed excellently, but it is Mrs. Etherium who shall be progressing onwards!"
