Night Shift

On Thursdays, Noah worked night shifts. He didn’t mind them much. He did have to stay up for the entirety of the night, but he had Edmund Grey with him and his colleague was good enough company.

That night would most likely be a fairly quiet one. A few people had arrived at their department with the seasonal bugs, but it was nothing they couldn’t take care of. And, right now, everyone was sleeping.

“I don’t think we’ll need anything stronger than a pepper up potion for them,” Noah commented. Them being the patients. He and Edmund were in the tiny office that overlooked the general patients’ room.

Edmund didn’t mind staying for night shift when necessary, and this was one of them, of which he let Katharina know so she wasn’t too worried. Tonight, though, seemed to be on the quiet side so far, and it wasn’t like he was alone, despite the patients being asleep. On the wrong floor he may be, but he was one of those Healers who offered their help where it was needed, and this was one such case.

“I’ll have to agree,” he responded. “We may need to brew a couple extras once we do. With this being winter, we’ll be going through pepper-up like kids do through butterbeer, I hope the potions lab is open.” Peering out of the office to check up on the room below, which he did on regular basis, Edmund glanced back once he was done with it. “Is there anyone who may have an allergic reaction, though? I know it’s rare, especially with pepper-up, but checking never hurts.” He also didn’t want to think about reams of paperwork that might wait for them if they’ve bungled up that badly.

Seeing as there wasn’t anything resembling a cauldron or potions ingredients here that he could see at a glance, Edmund wondered if there wasn’t anything he was missing that was obvious, but he still decided to check. “Unless this office is a secret potions lab I don’t know about,” he added ruefully. “I sometimes miss obvious things like this.”
