That morning had seen Ettie and her mother doing some last minute Christmas shopping. Ettie herself hadn’t had the chance to get all the presents she wanted during the Hogsmeade Weekend earlier that month But now they were all safely wrapped in the bottom of a charmed bag her mother had brought along with her.

After shopping, they got some candy from their last destination, Honeyduke’s, and settled at the park. They pleasantly chatted while eating their candy and when they were done, Ettie offered to throw the wrappings away at a trash bin near their bench.

She hadn’t thought that someone would try to attack her.

She hardly looked like a target, with her plain blue dress and general middle class-ness, but the pickpocket seemed to have other ideas.

She screamed and reached for her wand.

Godric was bored. He and Abernathy had finished their latest assignment a few days ago and nothing new had come in; he doubted that he would actually have anything new to do until after Christmas, which was terrible because he was bored now.

He had come to Padmore Park in the hopes that something interesting would happen. The sound of a girl screaming in distress was the best thing that had happened to him all day, accordingly.*

"Stupefy!" Godric shouted, launching himself towards the would-be pickpocket with what could only be described as an overabundance of bravado.

    *He was also awful.

Ettie would have hurtled a hex towards the pick-pocket hadn’t a rather pompous man come to her rescue. The thief, petrified, fell hard on the cold ground.

“Oh, my hero!” Ettie caught herself saying in a slightly snarky way, probably, before she could help herself. Something told her that the man would appreciate her words.

Godric beamed and puffed out his chest. "Just doing what I can, Miss," he said, though his tone was far from humble - Godric didn't do humble very well, and the slight snark went right over his incredibly egotistical head.

“So are you an auror, then?” she asked. He looked more like an actor, if Ettie was completely honest.

Godric shook his head. "A cursebreaker," he said, and his tone made it obvious that he was very pleased with himself for that one.

"Have you seen dragons?" Ettie asked spontaneously. "At Gringot's, that is."

Curse breakers works at the bank, didn't they?

Godric shook his head. "I work for an independent agency," he said, "Less dragons, there."

“Dragons are only good when they’re useful, anyway,” Ettie commented. “They’re all just glorified reptiles.”

Godric grinned. "I like the way you think," he said to the girl, still entirely oblivious as to her earlier sarcasm. (Godric was not the most... self-aware... of people.)

Despite herself, Ettie grinned, because she liked receiving compliments. Even if they were from rather pompous men like this one. He had been willing to rescue her, though, so he was clearly well-meaning.

“I’m glad I did not stumble upon some dragon lover!” Ettie joked light-heartedly. “I do not suppose you also find Quidditch to be a stupidly glorified sport?”

Godric shrugged his shoulders. "I never played it," he said, though he was a bit of a fan - of course, seeing as this pretty woman didn't seem to like it, he certainly wasn't going to mention that to her! The truth was a matter of circumstance and there was always the slightest chance that he could get laid.
