THE SHRAKE
ATTACKS ON FISHERMEN AND THEIR EQUIPMENT CLIMBING ![]() |
![]() Some who are more familiar with magical creatures than others would know what a shrake is – others may not. A bit of background for those of you who are not so inclined to knowledge of magical creatures. In the early years of our decade, a group of wizard fisherfolk were out doing their daily work off the coast of Donegal, Ireland when they came across some unfriendly Muggle fishermen. Now these Muggle fishermen were extremely burly, and sought to pick a fight with the wizard fisherfolk. Of course, bound by the International Statue of Wizarding Secrecy which was first signed in 1689, these wizards withheld any magic, and attempted to be on their way. Unfortunately, the pestering and rudeness kept coming from the Muggle fishermen who were determined to take part in a fight with these particular unfortunate wizard fisherfolk. You may be thinking to yourself that since the wizard folk were bound by the Statute of 1689, they had no contest of winning. These men were quite thinner by comparison, and were in fact, merely fisherfolk not looking for a fight. To an extent, you would be right – they had absolutely _____________________________________________________________ |
no physical advantage – but these magic folk seemed to get it in their minds that even though they weren’t allowed to use magic directly on the fisher folk that there was no harm in using magic to sabotage them directly. They proceeded to create this monstrous fish and christened it “The Shrake”. It’s rather large, about the size of a small child, with large, long poisonous spikes. The spines of Shrake are useful as a potion ingredient nowadays. The Shrake went on to cause enormous amounts of trouble for the Muggle fishermen by tearing their nets to shreds , and leaving them with endless hours of repair work to there nets. Unfortunately, the Shrake began to confuse the wizard fishermen’s nets and the Muggle fishermen nets with each other. It grew more and more vicious and some - thankfully only a handful – have lost their lives to this dangerous fish. Now it seems to be making a come back. This is a warning to all you fisherfolk out there. Be careful and cast protective spells on your nets as well as your boats. It could be the difference of life or death. AUTHOR: GULLIVER DORAN |
