Twisting through the water, Kyri enjoyed the slight cooling that always came to the lake at this time of year. It was likely that the surface of the lake had frozen over, but Kyri had not been up at the surface in long enough that she was not really sure. Down here it did not really matter if the surface was covered with waves or ice; it was warn enough, and filled with fish.
And there was always the Squid. The wise, ancient beast was always a challenge, and it seemed to have no issue with playing its part. Kyri was quite certain that if the beast wanted to it could entirely avoid being hunted.
As she moved between the long waterweeds that grew in the low light deep in the lake, Kyri felt the long, brittle fingers of a grindylow grasping at her tail. A smile sprung to the mermaid's face as she hefted her rope. The hunt had begun, and she fully intended to catch this little beastie.
