Appearance:

Anais has always been small, and it doesn’t seem that puberty will change that. She is just shy of five feet tall, and has probably reached her adult height already. Though she has filled out some since beginning finishing school, her frame is still slender and boyish with minimal curves. Her blonde hair is long and straight without much body, and she has blue eyes like most of her siblings. She is right handed.

History:

Anais is the last child born to the Beaumont family in the summer of 1869. She is a small, somewhat sickly child, but manages to struggle her way through infancy without too many near-death episodes. Given the age gap between her and the rest of her siblings, she often finds herself tagging along with Oceane during playtime, though never finds herself as interested in playing house or other such “feminine” games and merely goes along with her older sister to keep the peace. Once she learns to read, she finds herself far more engrossed in tales of faraway lands and adventures than anything offered her in her everyday life, and becomes something of a bookworm.

When she is sent to Hogwarts at age 11, Anais is thrilled to finally be going to school, having become something of a voracious reader with a thirst for knowledge. She had fully expected to be sorted into Ravenclaw like most of her older siblings, but after a full five minutes, the Sorting Hat settles on Slytherin instead. Anais is not too disappointed by this, having grown quite used to halfheartedly following in Oceane’s footsteps throughout her childhood -- it would hardly be the first time she has felt slightly out of place in her own skin. She quickly develops a talent for potions and herbology especially, and becomes friends with a few girls in her year, including Miss Artemisia Carrow, who she quickly becomes close to. The farther she progresses in her studies, the more she dreams of doing something with her talents once she graduates.

In 1883, her father dies, and Anais is hit hard by the loss. She falls into a deep depression that follows her through the summer and back to school. Her friends do much to distract her from her grief, especially Artemisia, and Anais grows even closer to her best friend -- to the point where she starts to have strangely…. intense feelings towards her. Towards the end of her fourth year, she realizes that these are the sorts of feelings one is supposed to have towards men, and Anais panics. She had always known that she didn’t share many interests with her older sisters, but that something could be so wrong with her was enough to destroy her sense of self entirely. This culminates in an argument between her and Mathias, where she asserts that she will never marry and become a healer instead (because what man deserved to be shackled to someone like her?). Mathias, furious, slaps her and pulls her from school after her fourth year. Anais is shattered at having both her dreams of a career and her friendships taken away from her, and becomes even more withdrawn than before.

Now that she has spent a year at finishing school, the wounds are perhaps not so fresh, but she still holds a grudge against her brother and probably always will. Her betrothal only throws salt in her wounds -- but she knows better now than to try to go against Mathias after what happened last time. Instead, she decides to simply bide her time until she is given the peculiar sort of freedom marriage would allow her... perhaps her betrothed would not be so cruel a master as her brother, though she’s not holding her breath on that count.
