Charming is a Victorian Era Harry Potter roleplay set primarily in the village of Hogsmeade, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the non-canon village of Irvingly. Characters of all classes, both magical and muggle — and even non-human! — are welcome.
With a member driven story line, monthly games and events, and a friendly and drama-free community focused on quality over quantity, the only thing you can be sure of is fun!
"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
Beat the butter to a cream, and then beat the eggs before adding the flour. Then, beat the mixture until it is smooth and light. Add four ounces of the cocoanut and again mix well. Pour this mixture into a round cake mold that has been lined with paper. The mixture should be about 1 1/2 inches thick. Bake for twenty to thirty minutes, then carefully lift the tin and remove the paper. When cold, stamp out rounds with a plain cutter which is about two and a half inches in diameter. Whip up the cream until it is stiff and flavour with vanilla, sweeten to taste. Apply to the rounds and sprinkle with cocoanut, serve.
The Most Eligible Witches and Wizards! As St. Valentine's Day is next week, there is no doubt that romance is in the air! As such, we thought it would be the most appropriate time to feature some of the community's most eligible bachelors--and bachelorettes!
Miss Annette Fontaine.
The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Fontaine, Miss Fontaine is a recent Ravenclaw alumna, having celebrated her debut just this past summer! While at Hogwarts, Miss Fontaine also served as prefect, which is surely a sign of maturity and responsibility--admirable traits for a lady to have!
Miss Lily Huddleston.
Miss Huddleston is the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Terrence and Sylvia Huddleston. She is a Slytherin alumna, and also quite petite--a boon, perhaps for a gentleman of shorter stature.
Mr. Jago Jenkins.
Mr. Jenkins is currently the Head of the Department for the Regulation & Control of Magical Creatures at the Ministry of Magic, a position we're sure is quite important! Tragically, Mr. Jenkins has been twice widowed, and currently has only one young daughter, who we are certain would benefit from a motherly influence!
Miss Nathalie Jennings.
A working woman! Miss Jennings is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil and Brielle Jennings, and is currently a healer in the Magical Bugs ward of St. Mungo's. While Miss Jennings is a bit older than the usual debutante, the skills of a healer would certainly come in handy for a wife and mother!
Mr. Atticus Kirke.
The Department for the Regulation & Control of Magical Creatures seems to have its fair share of charming bachelors, as Mr. Kirke is currently the Head of the Beast Division. Mr. Kirke is also the elder brother of Mr. Tybalt Kirke, who has previously been featured in Witch Weekly!
Mr. Jasper Montague.
Mr. Montague is a man who has faced great tragedy in recent times. He lost two brothers to the Laughing Plague, and a third in the Ministry disaster last year. He seems to be recovering most admirably, however, and has been spotted at several functions in recent months! Mr. Montague is currently the Assistant Head of Creature Induced Injuries at Hogsmeade Hospital--no doubt a rewarding job!
Miss Fiona Prewett.
The younges daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gideon and Harriet Prewett, Miss Prewett debuted this past summer after spending a year at Pendergast's School for Young Roses. The former Ravenclaw is reportedly a very proper young lady.
Miss Zinnia Rowan.
Miss Rowan is actually one of a pair! She and her twin--Miss Aster Rowan--are both currently healers at St. Mungo's, in the Potions and Plant Poisoning ward. Such closeness to family is, of course, quite admirable!
Mr. Bernard Simpson.
Although a widower with several children--some already grown!--the Director of Hogsmeade Hospital would surely make a sound husband for perhaps the more mature debutante!
Mr. Zian Zhao.
Mr. Zhao is a relatively recent arrival to Britain, having only arrived in 1883. He is presently the Chinese Liaison for the Ministry's Department of International Magical Co-Operation. Another widower, Mr. Zhao has no children--an excellent opportunity for the lady who catches his eye!
Reworking The Slums: Problem Or Progress? There have been many stories and occurrences recently that have brought to light certain disparities between the neighborhoods of Hogsmeade. These issues have been so grand that even the Minister of Magic, Balthazar Urquart, and the entirety of the Ministry have begun working on a solution to remedy the situation at hand. The Daily Prophet reporters remain on top of a majority of these cases, but we wanted to hear from some of our readers regarding their opinions and ideas on the matter and whether or not they would do anything themselves.
Who are the victims in this case? You tell us! In case anyone hasn’t been keeping up with recent news, the Minister, in an article within the past few days, disclosed that the Ministry will be working on not only “eradicating crime” but also “improving the quality of life for those who live there”. He went on to say that these areas will be cleaner and safer, however a Ministry spokeswizard alleged that specific sections of the slums would be completely leveled to properly issue these changes. As a result of this decision, many Hogsmeade citizens were invited to attend a meeting at Hogsmeade Hall, where the Minister took questions and concerns about the upcoming project.
We were able to meet with a few people about this issue, specifically those that did not attend the meeting to avoid repeating any past opinions, and their responses were rather interesting. They have all asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons and some have also stated that it was too “plain” of a discussion. Unfortunately, some of our participants were rather vulgar in their answers, but the following are pleasant enough for even the most delicate of eyes.
The people of Hogsmeade truly value their neighborhoods and homes. ”You know, I never really paid much attention to the slums. They seem rather dull and unappealing – certainly not a place I would ever think about visiting anytime soon! But, if they were to be remade and tidied up, I suppose I can’t say I would object to it.”
”The decision is pitiful. Absolutely pitiful. I can’t honestly believe that the Ministry would give any attention to that rat infested plague of a neighborhood and have the nerve to provide an excuse of there being too much crime. If it were up to me, the whole place would be leveled, along with the people in it!”
”I heard that there were hags roaming about in the slums… Horrible creatures, you know? They prey on those little innocent children and try to fit into our society. I wouldn’t care if the Ministry bought all of the women jewelry and a few gowns, I certainly cannot say that I condone such a decision to promote a world with more hags in it!”
”I think the Minister has a lot on his plate and I truly believe that restructuring the slums will only better Hogsmeade as a whole. Just imagine a place with no crime, beautiful buildings, and well behaved children. The Minister knows exactly what we are looking for!”
”I value the Ministry’s work, but if I were in charge, I would bring to light the unprofessional behavior of some of these shop employees instead. You want to know what a true crime looks like? Check the prices in some of the shops around here. They are outrageous!”
We here at Witch Weekly would love to hear any further opinions our readers may have about this work in progress and encourage you to write to us. As always, we value the word of those we represent and will continue to give everyone quality content that is sure to impress.
Look out for other competitions in future editions of Witch Weekly!
Win an Outing with a Gentleman: The Results! The response to our previous issue's competition was quite overwhelming but sadly we could not choose everyone, as fond as we are of matchmaking!
The lucky winners are Miss Ismene Swift, eighteen and a member of Mrs. Pendergast's fine school, and Miss Jupiter Lufkin, a naming seer who, at the age of thirty, will surely be thrilled by the opportunity! Both were given the opportunity to choose their date from an impressive list of eligible volunteers and, though they were surely spoilt for choice, Miss Swift eventually settled on Mr. Benedict Sterling, the incredibly eligible head of the Auror Office, whilst Miss Lufkin selected Mr. Jasper Montague, Assistant Head of Creature Induced Injuries unit at Hogsmeade Hospital who is extremely handsome and an entire year younger than Miss Lufkin!
Congratulations to both Miss Swift and Miss Lufkin! We hope you have a wonderful time!
