Leonid had been surprised to hear of Ross's impending promotion, if only because as far as he was concerned, Ross should have been promoted eons ago. He would never say it out loud, but he had long suspected that there was a reason other than his love for the Law Enforcement Squad that had seen him be chief for so long, and it had nothing to do with Ross's wishes.
Now, however, he was Assistant Head of the DMLE, and he had summoned Leonid to his shiny new office.
The hit wizard honestly hadn't a clue what he could possibly want. Surely he had enough on his plate that he wasn't calling his brother-in-law up to reminisce about the not-so-distant days on the squad?
Leonid knocked lightly on Ross's doorframe to announce his presence as he stood in the open doorway.
"Miss me already? ... Sir," he added hastily, quickly remembering his elevated position, though it was really more for the benefit of anyone listening in than Ross's pride.
