THE WIZENGAMOT RULES ON DUELING
A PROGRESSIVE RULING ![]() |
![]() As many of our involved citizens are aware, Mr. Barnabas Skeeter presented his proposal against the dangers of women dueling competitively on March 10th. Many people showed up for the debate - though there was a definitive lack of support for his traditionalist views. In fact, it appeared that the opposing side so overpowered him that it may have taken over the proposal all together. Some of the more notable figures of opposition were Mr. Lucius Lestrange, Former Minister Flint (her passion was so great that she accused Mr. Skeeter of suffering from the Napoleon complex --- he did not respond to the accusation directly), Head Auror Mr. Benedict Sterling (who fully supported Miss Conolly and her previously shocking claim about running an illegal women's dueling club), Miss Conolly herself, as well as several of the Hogwarts' staff and various members of the Ministry. The only supporters who spoke up in Mr. Skeeter's defense were Mr. Armando Dippet and the Founder of Pendergast's School of Young Roses Mrs. Pendergast. _____________________________________________________________ |
In the end, the Wizengamot took a recess to discuss their final decision. We have been waiting with baited breath these past few weeks of deliberation, but finally we were presented with a decision: the Wizengamot rejected Mr. Skeeter's proposal and have approved the opposing proposal. Women can now duel properly - equally - with men! A reporter was able to contact Mr. Skeeter immediately following the news: "I am relieved that a decision was made. It was a pity that the majority of my supporters did not show up to the proposal, but after much thought, I am glad of it. The opposing statements held a truth to them that I had originally overlooked. I cannot regret my previous stance, as the attention drawn to it has brought society to accept a change that will undoubtedly benefit witches for decades to come." We also were able to contact Mr. Lucius Lestrange, who stated: "I think the greatest shock is that this was not done sooner. It's a pity that it took an appallingly foolish suggestion to make the Wizengamot realize what it should have realized long ago." It will be interesting to see what the upcoming dueling tournament turn out will be like now that everyone is on a level playing field. AUTHOR: IAN PENGLOSS |
