A young lady with passion in her heart and an idleness of mind is wont to love at the drop of a hat.  Taken on the winds of change to the fancy of the slightest gallant who looks at her with a kind smile and clear blue eyes.  That is not to say that her heart is truely won with little effort but rather that she is inclined to think herself love very easily, but that love is an inconsistant as smoke - it changes with every wind.

It is about such a lady that this story dwells, a lady of kindly aspect and pretty mein, who was much admired by the gents of the county for her pleasant smile and pretty airs but who in turn imagined herself rather in love with hald the gentlemen she danced with and half she didn't.  Any young gallant, with a handsome smile, regardless of manners and kindness was likened to break her young heart. This was Miss Alora Hale, a young lady of good and respectable family, who was not yet fully 18 years old, she was not objectively the belle of every ball but it was generally agreed that her slim pale features and straw blond hair were much improved by the ease and frequency of her smile, the grace of her laugh, and her general good humour.

Miss Hales true flaw, and such a deep and dark flaw for a lady to have were the frequency and passion of her heartbreaks
