Mrs Potter,

I'm writing to wish you an early Merry Christmas, I hope that all has been well with you and the children. I am also writing with a bit of good news that should explain my absence as of late; I have recently been promoted to the position of Director at the hospital. It came as quite a surprise, especially considering there were several other qualified candidates, but I will fully assume my position this week.

As such, the hospital will be holding a gala (at my sister's insistence) to celebrate and to to begin raising money for a new fund I've had set up to support families who struggle to pay their medical costs. I would be honored if you would join me on the evening of the 31st to celebrate as my guest.

Merry Christmas if I do not see you before hand.
