Appearance: At eight, Pierce is a tiny bit taller than one would expect. He is thin, but does not look unhealthy or malnourished. His favorite activites include wittling and helping his uncle Caspar with carpentry, so he has developed some moderate muscles. His skin is just a tad lighter than the rest of his siblings, but his hair and eyes are the same dark brown as theirs. His hair his mother keeps short, since otherwise he ends up coming home with it full of thistles and twigs from his exploring adventures. It curls very tightly, enough to be almost gravity-defying. Pierce is ambidexterous, though since he cannot write and does not use a wand he hasn't realized this yet.

History:

• 1874: Pierce is born, the second son and fourth child of Baxter and Lavender Johnson.
  
  1875: Lavender becomes pregnant again, but the babe dies in childbirth.
  
  1876: Baxter is injured at work and has to take time off to recover. He attempts to go back to work before he is ready and his injury becomes infected. Complications lead to his death. During the time he has taken off work, Egg begins working as a messenger boy to try and bring in extra money. He is five, but tall, so looks older. The family tries to make do for a while, but the three youngest children cannot work, and Lavender soon moves in with her father-in-law, Elbert, to make ends meet. Caspar still lives at home with Bert, and this is when he joins the immediate family, so to speak.
  
  1878: Caspar teaches Pierce to whittle, and it becomes his new favorite pasttime, though nothing he makes really looks like what it is supposed to be. Caspar jokes that perhaps Pierce will be a carpenter, though Pierce secretly wants to become a sailor.
  
  1879: Orpha is hired as a kitchen maid in a middle-class home, and her head is immediately filled of gradiose dreams. She decides she wants to be a cook in a well-to-do house someday, and will work hard until she is one.
  
  1880: Pierce tries to become a cabin boy on a small cargo ship, but is foiled by Birdie, who, frustrated that he will not let her come along, tells the captain that he is very sick and lying about it--and also that he is only six, not eight, as he'd said. The captain withdraws the offer. Pierce tries to complain to his mother about Birdie, but Lavender, who had not known of his plans to become a sailor, is quite relieved that they were not accomplished, and strictly tells him not to visit the docks anymore.
  
  1881: Lav finds a job for Birdie as a laundry assistant, mostly to keep her out of trouble, but she hates the work and will often arrive late or ask to leave early. Later this year, as labor conditions worsen, Bert joins a group of fellow laborers who want to unionize. The factory cuts hours (and subsequently pay) for those they suspect of being involved, which quashes that idea, and sends the family into moderately harder times than previously. Pierce steals a bit of money to try and buy food, but when he is discovered, Lav makes him return the money, and Caspar has a very serious talk with him about right and wrong. Pierce gets the message that even though stealing is easier, it's not something they're to do.
  
  1882: Bert loses his job after complaining about working conditions. He makes the decision that the family needs a new start, which is what prompts Lavender to write to her sister, Thistle Shacklebolt, for advice. Thistle remarks on the new village of Irvingly, and Bert decides they will go there, in hopes that a new town will provide many new opportunities. Caspar has been saving money steadily throughout his entire adult life to someday start a family, but under pressure from his father, he spends his entire savings to purchase their plot of land in Irvingly, desparately hoping to find work when he arrives to try and build their home.

Personality: Always adventurous, Pierce loves exploring. He often has grand dreams of what he will do with his future, like his uncle (though his are much less family-oriented) and believes that if he works hard enough, anything is possible. Determined to the point of stubbornness, Pierce gets a bit of tunnel-vision when working on something in particular, but is generally quite friendly. He has never been exposed to magic before, and is therefore a bit suspicious of it, and is not sure what to make of the fact that he has magical family members.

Family is an all-important concept to the Johnsons; Pierce, like the rest of his family, puts the well-being of his siblings above that of himself, even though he gets mad at the twins often. He has never had friends outside of his family, really, so other children intrigue him.
