    October 11 1883,
    Dearest Gemma,

I hope I am not bothering you by writing to you, dear. I know that you must be terribly busy with your classes and friends, but I missed you and life in Irvingly is so calm in that rather dull way. Not that I want to complain, as that is better than having a multi-murderer on the loose or something of that sort!

You'd like Irvingly, I think. It may not be as bustling as Hogsmeade, but it is very close to nature and that is quite calming. Class differences also do not seem to be so blatant here. There are some less luxurius homes, of course, but nothing as big as the slums at Hogsmeade. My neighbours are also all quite pleasant. Even the land-lady, Mrs. Sarah Marlowe is quite kind to me, unlike the land-lords I had in the past.

    Love,

    Mother

    Mamma,

I never mind your letters! I should have written sooner, I apologize. School and OWLs are quite tricky. It's so very hard, I'm not sure how I'll ever get through exams at the end of the year. Thank Merlin I have good friends who are willing to tutor me because I would be lost otherwise. We started the vanishing charm last month and I still can't get it right.

Irvingly sounds lovely! I wish I could visit. I think I would like it there. I think I'd like anywhere better than home, but I'm trying to help with the twins, so at least I have something to do there now.

Have you heard of this Fall Festival at the end of the month? Will you be attending? I think I will be a ghost for the fair. It seems like such a great time! Do you think we could sneak a meeting in?

    All My Love,
    Gemma

    Dearest Gemma,

I am sure that you will do great on your OWLs, or at least the classes that you like and you are good at. One good thing about being female is that you do not really need to get good grades at any particular classes, unless you want to be a healer or an auror, of course. You will surely learn how to do the vanishing charm and if you have too much trouble you could ask one of your siblings for help?

As for the Fall Festival, I am not sure if I could come. Even if I was not busy with helping babies come into the world, I cannot afford a costume and I heard that they are mandatory in order for someone to attend. Besides, I suppose that there will be lots of people there and I do not want to get you into trouble because someone who knows me saw us together. I am sure you will look like a lovely ghost, though!

    Love,

    Mother
