    September 16 1883,
    Dearest Edward,

I am merely writing to you to see if you are well, as some time has passed since our last correspondence! I am sure that you are terribly busy and I would hate to distract you, but then, distractions are good sometimes and it is always delightful to read your letters.

I sadly have little news myself. My classes are not particularly thrilling, though I am learning interesting things. You will probably think me silly of I tell you, though, as one could consider my classes as useless and 'fluffy' and you took important ones in order to become a healer. I am certainly lucky to be marrying one, as my skills in both potions and herbology are terrible. At least I know that if I accidentally poison myself there would be someone there to save me!

At least I am good with defensive magic, or at least in my gender's level. It is always good to know a good shield charm or two, though. Being helpless is the most terrible thing that could happen to someone.

    Yours fondly,
    Ellory

    Dear Ellory,

Thank you for the letter, work has been taking a lot of my time lately, but maybe I should explain why it is not your own owl that is delivering this letter to you.

I was at work as your letter arrived to my home, and Elmer decided to come by and he was unfortunately surprised by your owl at sometime before I came home, and – well this is not easy to say but – Elmer owes you a new owl. For now I hope you can survive with the school owls and if necessary my own.

I am hoping that you will not regret your choices for NEWT levels. Given your gender and your life, your classes are doubtfully useless, and I am sure they fit you very well.

I will do anything in my power to save you, should you ever accidently poison yourself.

    Edward

    Dearest Edward,

Cousin Elmer owes me an owl? I do not suppose that he liked Fionnula so much that he decided to keep it for himself? He never seemed as the type of person who'd like owls, but if he likes her so much then we could get him an owl of the same breed as a Christmas present.

I have used the school owls before, so you should not worry too much. I send plenty of letters, as my family is a rather large one and Regan would be too worried if I didn't write to him at least twice a month and there is no way Fionnula could send so many letters at once.

    Yours fondly,
    Ellory

    September 17 1883,
    Dear Ellory,

Unfortunately, that is not the case. It will not be the first time Elmer has been cause of death of a pet, both his own, but also mine. Never Charles’ for some reason – I have no idea how that can be.

I feel honored that you used Fionnula for me then, but I hope that Elmer will – eventually – stop killing defenceless animals. He does not do it on purpose, he is just unlucky around them.

In the future, we will find a way to keep owls and other animals away from him.

    Edward

Cousin Elmer never seemed as the type of person who'd kill animals! But you say that he did not do it on purpose, so I suppose I should forgive me. How can he send letters when he's so unlucky around owls, though? He should check and make sure that he wasn't cursed, I heard that there are curses that can make you unlucky with certain things for a certain amount of time.

I will replace Fionnula with a new owl on the October Hogsmeade weekend, so please, do not feel like this was your fault. At least now she's in a better place.

    Yours fondly,
    Ellory
