Charming is a Victorian Era Harry Potter roleplay set primarily in the village of Hogsmeade, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the non-canon village of Irvingly. Characters of all classes, both magical and muggle — and even non-human! — are welcome.
With a member driven story line, monthly games and events, and a friendly and drama-free community focused on quality over quantity, the only thing you can be sure of is fun!
"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
I hope my letter is not unwelcome- if it is, please, let me know and I shall endeavor to write no more.
I only wish to offer what little reassurance I can against Witch Weekly- nobody of sense pays their gossip the slightest heed. After all, they have claimed Papa to be a vampire and an inferi before, and that does quite damage the credulity of what they may write. I trust in my Papa’s judgement, and I’m sure those of any consequence will too.
Your letter is not at all unwelcome, quite the opposite, in fact. You may write to me any time you like.
I hope the article has not caused you or any of your younger siblings any trouble. While I don't doubt articles of your father being an inferius or a vampire were easily dismissed as ridiculous nonsense, I worry this is slightly more insidious as it isn't entirely a work of fiction. I'm not sure if your father has told your brothers and sisters, and if he has not this is surely an awful way to find out.
As far as Witch Weekly’s brand of journalistic basis goes, my Papa’s supposed headless corpse was enough to merit them trying to expose him as a magical puppet. The positive to them existing is that they make it very easy to tell who in society is absolutely ridiculous or at the very least gullible.
I confess Papa had not told us. The letter inviting me to meet with you was the first I even knew of Papa being in search for a wife, and I did not tell my siblings for I did not know what would come of it. I will be honest and say Papa offered me the chance to break your courtship if I did not like you, so did not wish to confront them with news of a potential step-mother if it was to come to nothing. They will hold no ill-will against you, I am sure, for they love Papa and will trust his judgment as I do. Their anger will be- quite rightly- directed at me for concealing from them what I suppose they ought to have known, and leaving them to find out in such a manner.
I had feared they were unaware but I think your decision not to tell them was quite mature and, I believe, the right thing to do; no one could have known that Witch Weekly would find out so soon, except perhaps the mysterious informant.
I hope you are wrong and that your siblings don't blame you for a decision that had their best interests at heart. With all luck, any gossip as a result of Witch Weekly will, for the most part, take place in society rather than at Hogwarts. Gossip always makes these things seem worse.
If I cause any tension between you and your siblings, I bitterly regret it and if there is anything I can do to help alleviate it, you must let me know at once. I fear, however, that I could only serve to make things worse.
I honestly believe Papa tried to spare them any unnecessary pain, at least till they were at home and he could explain fully and they could meet you and see sense. I did not see need to tell them while Papa did not see it necessary, but I doubt they shall see it so. It is a comfort, however, to hear that you believe I did to the right thing.
I fear the existence of Witch Weekly makes school worse for gossip than it might have been before. We are used to weathering it, but I am not sure how we can all bear it when it divides us. I am sure it is very much worse in society, and I ardently hope it hasn’t distressed you or Papa too much.
If the fuss isn't already dying down, hopefully it will by Sunday when the next issue comes out and distracts people with other "news". Fortunately, I have the luxury of being able to avoid social gatherings and so I've probably suffered the least of everyone, although I have received my fair share of anonymous letters.
I hope your siblings aren't mistreating you and I wish you luck in your forthcoming(?) examinations!
I think that and the approaching coming out ball may be the saving grace. At the very least, it ought to distract the older girls. This year will be the first year I am old enough to attend, but I do not know if I shall if Papa cannot face going.
