Bearer of Bad News

Mrs. Pendergast,

I am very sorry to interrupt your night with bad news, but I am currently at Hogsmeade Hospital with your daughter, Miss Ellory Pendergast. She was at Mr. Winkle's ball (in the company of her sister, I believe she said) when she tried to apparate home and was splinched, losing one finger. I was standing nearby and tried to help, and somehow we were both kicked out of the ballroom and unable to return.

I was able to stop the bleeding and took Miss Pendergast to your house via floo. We recovered her finger and went directly to Hogsmeade Hospital. The healers are working on it now but said they should be able to reattach it quickly. I expect that by the time you receive this they will already have finished.

Miss Pendergast is understandably quite distraught and I intend to stay with her until you arrive. If you have any other questions I will be able to answer them in person.
