"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
More About Millinery - How To Choose The Perfect Hat
Aside from jewelry, the hat is perhaps a lady of fashion's best accessory--but the choice of hat is also one that is fraught with danger. A well-suited hat will draw attention to a woman in a crowd, but not draw attention away from a woman in a private conversation. It must be elegant and subtle, yet bold enough to make a positive statement. The wrong choice of hat could lead an otherwise well balanced outfit to land one in our 'what not to wear' articles and earn a young woman the scorn of her peers.
The first thing to consider is size. A hat must be either tall or wide in order to attract the proper level of attention, but never both. For most, a narrow-based hat with a taller design is advisable, as this showcases and highlights a lady's natural charms, hair style, and facial structure. Those who are more fashion-forward may be able to take a wide-brimmed but short hat and wear it well, but as these hats tend to shelter a woman's hair and part of her face from view, this is only an option for women who are confident enough to pull off a certain level of mystique (or for the particularly ugly, where hiding one's face is an improvement regardless of mannerisms).
Color is equally important. A hat need not always match the dress, but it must be of a complimentary color. Women who are not confident in their fashion skills are advised to either attempt to match the color of their dresses, or to choose hats in neutral colors such as black, brown, and white. Attempt to get the rest of your accessories (gloves, parasol, etc) to match your hat if you are unsure. A hat should not be too colorful, as this will make it more difficult to match and will make it seem gaudy when worn. Never buy a hat with more than three colors in its design!
Designs should be cohesive and not too flamboyant. The hat is not meant to be the centerpiece of the outfit--you are! Do not buy a hat that is more interesting than you! If you are in doubt as to whether you are more captivating than the hat you are contemplating buying, the safest bet is to assume you are boring and choose a tamer hat. A tame hat on an exciting woman will look muted and elegant, while a gaudy hat on a timid woman will simply look pathetic.
If you already have a dress in mind for the hat, try to make the style match. If you dress has a beaded bodice, for example, buying a hat which features a rose made of beads would be exceptionally elegant. Feathers are typically a good choice for any jewel-toned gowns, particularly peacock or occamy feathers. Try to avoid putting anything shiny on your hat, as it might become a distraction if it catches the light too readily (and also might make you the victim of a wandering niffler, if you happen to pass one on your way to the party). Beware of any hat that involves either live or enchanted animals, as these tend to move and could prove a distraction at all but the liveliest of events. They are also difficult to store, and may cause problems in your closet if you own more than one such hat!
When in doubt, find a fashion-forward friend and have them assist you in picking out a versatile, sturdy hat, then practice some simple color-changing charms. It is difficult for a novice to match a color exactly, but without too much ado an average witch should be able to change a hat to match closely enough to her dress for a candlelit dinner or gas-lamp-lit ball. Once you've mastered this, you can experiment with adding ribbons or brooches to your favorite hat in order to customize it for the event in question--and so that no one suspects you are wearing the same hat to every party!
The ideal hat compliments your hair and complexion, instead of hiding them. Look for hats with narrower bases and tall designs.
Choosing a hat with a wide base can tend to make your head look small and therefore make you look unintelligent. This style is only flattering for a very small percentage of witches with a very particular facial structure, so beware!
Try to avoid co-opting men’s fashion unless you are going to a fancy dress party, or other event where this would be considered clever
Animals can serve as excellent inspiration for festive hats, but if you plan to include a live animal on your hat, be sure to think of the potential for distraction and choose your occasion for wear well.

Whirlwind Courtship Ends In Disaster? It’s hard to say when the couple in question has vanished!
Trouble In The Pettigrew Household? The picturesque wedding of Mr. Thom Pettigrew to Miss Hannah Echelon late last year was featured here in Witch Weekly and attended by the best and brightest of wizarding society, however the star couple seems to have fallen off the map not long after their nuptials. Of course Mr. Thom Pettigrew has always been something of a fixture in society, but aside from his Quidditch Christmas party he’s been uncharacteristically reclusive. Mrs. Pettigrew, who had already withdrawn somewhat following her father’s untimely and infamous death, was positively missing in action until she attended the Aphrodite Ball, where a reporter managed to get a picture of her and her new husband.
Mrs. Pettigrew was quick to smile for the camera at a recent event, but her husband seemed rather distant, and remained so throughout the evening!
Of course, the couple’s disappearance could easily be attributed to new love and marital bliss, but their behavior towards each other during the Aphrodite Ball told a somewhat different story. The couple was not seen to dance together even once during the course of the night, nor did they even spend much time in each other’s presence! Mrs. Pettigrew was seen to take dances with a few other gentlemen, while her husband was content to loiter at the edge of the ballroom.
Is something amiss in the Pettigrew household? Perhaps Mrs. Pettigrew, a young as she is, is finding herself overwhelmed by the suddenness of becoming a mother to two young children? Or perhaps there have been more recent developments that might affect their happiness?
Recent reports also suggest that they’ve moved to Mr. Pettigrew’s country estate. All the better to hide something, or does the new couple just need the extra space provided by a large manor?
Adding to the confusion is the report that Mr. Pettigrew has recently been spotted at several taverns in either Hogsmeade or London, perhaps a bit more frequently than a proper gentleman ought to be. Is he neglecting his husbandly duties, and could this be the cause of the relative coolness between them? Or is there something more scandalous afoot?
