Hudson knew that he had a reason to dislike Oscar's posh girlfriend. She had made sure that it would open in their House's common room and during one of the busiest hours, too. As Cee Gallivan's voice boomed in the room, Hudson sank deeper in his seat.
Fuck.
It was one thing to get detention and another to be yelled at by your team's captain. Especially when it was some posh girl. Of course she'd take the side of the fancy lad.
When the howler was done, Hudson was left speechless.
Open to all Ravenclaws! Come watch this idiot get embarrassed.

Nathan nearly jumped out of his seat, only barely holding onto his books. He looked up towards the older student. He was half annoyed and half curious.

Howlers. Were. Hilarious.
Especially so when they were happening to wretched little upstarts who made the common room look untidy and especially so when it was Cecily Gallivan sending them. Trixie didn't know her particularly well of course - despite what she would wish they did not run in the same circles - but she knew the voice well enough.
"Why Mr Pine," she said with faux sympathy, unable to curb her smile. "Whatever did you do to invoke such ire?"

Working in the common room during the height of activity there wasn't Ivory's preference, but all her favorite spots in the library had been claimed and she'd been forced to settle for this.
The hustle and bustle had been wearing on her nerves for quite some time, but the howler was the last straw. To start, the sudden shouting scared the daylights out of her, making her jerk in her seat. Then, because she simply wasn't unlucky enough, she discovered that she'd knocked her inkwell over out of fright. As ink bled into her parchment, tragically staining her homework, Ivory whipped around to face the source of the racket.
"For Merlin's sake, Mister Pine! Must you air your dirty linen in the common room?!" She cried, her voice high and tight with anger.

If being stared at wasn't awkward enough, being spoken to certainly was. Some brunette addressed him with the most taunting tone and smile. Before he had the chance to respond to her, another girl started yelling at him.
"Why don't you ask your friend Miss Galivan?" Hudson asked irritably. He knew for a fact that the older girl was a friend of his captain's because he had seen them around. As for the other brunette, she was probably a friend of hers, too! Miss Gallivan had probably planted them there to continue his humiliation! "I didn't ask her for any letters! Go yell at her!"

"Mr. Pine," came the fifth year's voice. Had the other boy been in any other house he would have docked points off for disturbing the peace. But he actually wanted to win the house cup and if Miss Galivan was sending howlers, he likely had already lost them points, even more so I'd this was about what he had already heard. "I would recommend you watch your mouth, I would have though you would have thought you learned your lesson. Yelling at the ladies will only further embarrasse yourself. After all, didn't Miss Galivan just say she was willing to remove you from the team. Do you wish to test your luck?"

Attempting to do homework was the real goal for the moment and sitting at one of the tables Claire was doing just that. Dangling her legs from the chair, her bare toes wiggled with a great deal of freedom as a pair of slippers rested neatly on the floor under the chair she was sitting at. Trying to remember history was one problem, but it was a bit more difficult looking at magic all from a magical point of view. This was highly important though and the sooner she could make sense of what was going on with the history in class the easier she might understand this magical world she was living in now.
There were the normal sounds in the common room, shuffling of parchment, the huffs, and sighs from other students and even a crackle from the fireplace but all of this was dramatically altered as a voice boomed out filling the whole room with fear-inducing tone. Wide-eyed she sat there staring at the scene that was unfolding in the house common room.
Conversation in the room drew into a deep focus on the matter of what this yelling voice said but her own attention drew less towards the context but the matter of how it was done. Was it really a letter itself that just did all of that noise? Slipping her toes down into the slippers, Claire made her way over towards the source a bit trying to catch a closer look on what was left of this howling letter. "What was that?"

What. The. Fuck.
Hudson blinked incredulously at Germander Macnair.
"I'm sorry, were you deaf when she-" He pointed at Ivory Kamaria, "Shouted at me?"
Of course he was. Ivory Kamaria was a rich, privileged person, just as he was. "I see you're selective as to who gets to be reprimanded for raising their voices and who isn't. Being rich immediately makes it acceptable to shout at people."
He ignored the young girl who'd spoken out in all this.

"That was a howler," Ivory quickly explained to the curious first year.
And to Mr. Pine - "Obviously Miss Gallivan had a good reason for sending it! And being rich has nothing to do with this - you disturbed me first! Why should I be chastised for responding appropriately to your foolishness?!"

"I must inform you, Mr. Pine," he started, frowning at the lower class individual, "that the state of Miss Kamaria's families' wealth or your own has nothing to deal with the matter. Not when you have a history of making a scene. Not only that but manners as well - it tends to be frowned upon to disturb the peace and yell at a lady. I would have reacted the same had you retorted to Miss Borgin or Miss de Luna." This made Germander slightly grateful he had taken the time to learn the first years' names already - though he hadn't planned to before receiving the prefect badge.

Lips twitching with amusement Beatrix got to her feet, her name acting like a siren's call, allowing her to join in with proceedings as she saw fit. She did care for wealth but she most certainly did not care for privilege, so gracefully she put herself between the two fifth years, gaze not wavering from the prefect once.
"I cannot speak for others Mr Macnair but I am more than capable of answering for myself," she said with a smile so pleasant and polite, and a tone so reasonable it could not possibly incite any further bluster. It was a tone she had learnt from her mother to be used when dealing with agitated customers and it had served her well in the past. "I'm sure Mr Pine is simply upset at being spoken to so harshly, as anybody would be. One has to wonder whether sending a howler to a fellow student is a worse breach of decorum than the recipient being upset about it."
