Appearance: Miranda is exceptionally pale with elongated canines. She is five feet two inches tall and weighs one hundred and six pounds. She is noticeably feminine, her curves shaped by corsets. Her thick blond hair hangs to the bottom of her shoulder blades, far shorter than it was in her human life. It is neither curly nor straight, but rather a frustrating and easy tangling variety of wavy. Her blue eyes are large and down turned at the outer corners. They tend to give her a perpetually sad appearance. She is right handed.

History: Born in London in the spring of 1744, Miranda Bytheway was a gentle and feminine child. The oldest of four surviving children (Levi Bytheway Jr. died at the tender age of two), she was pampered and treated to the best of what her family had to offer. The Bytheways were not exceptionally wealthy, but were comfortably well off. Her childhood was a happy and well-fed one, filled with lessons and church and high expectations.

By the time she was a young lady, it was clear that Miranda's looks would be sufficient to help her gain a good Catholic husband. She was engaged to Franklin Howe, the son of a shop owner, and although she did not love him she knew that he was a good man who would treat her well and be a good father for her children. She was happy with her life and excited to be a wife and mother in a good Catholic home.

Unfortunately, fate had other plans for her. The day before her wedding Miranda went to confession, wishing to be pure for her wedding day. On the way home she was accosted by a strange man. She awoke scared, alone, and hungry. Seeking comfort and safety, she went through the night towards her home.

The destruction and devastation that followed that reaction is burned into Miranda's memory.

A little more than a week later, Mordecai Price found her, hungry and pathetic, in the woods. He claimed to be the one who changed her and called himself her father. At Mordecai's side, Miranda learned how to be a vampire. More than that, he used her. With Miranda completely under his power, Mordecai took advantage of her. In the beginning there was false affection, but then there was only belittlement and pain.

Finally, after thirteen years, Miranda had taken enough abuse. When Mordecai thought himself secure, Miranda ripped him apart and burned the pieces. It is the only of her sins that she feels no guilt for, and she cannot forget any of her sins. With Mordecai destroyed, Miranda went off on her own, living on the fringes of society, feeding only when her thirst forced her to.

Alone, she was safe from sin. She sought out deserts for the most part and lived under the burning sun far away from human eyes. But even the most stubborn of beings is susceptible to loneliness. Miranda was no exception, and every few years she found the need to find companionship. She could not sleep to escape, and suicide was out of the question. She tried living with other vampires, but found that it was uncomfortable for her as she still thinks of herself as human after more than one hundred years. After Hogsmeade was founded she thought of an idea that might allow her to live among humans again.

After all, Miranda had money. It was not a huge amount, but it represented the entire wealth of her long dead family. She would not be able to run a successful business if it was openly owned by a vampire, and so she created Rosa Lee, a mysterious and wealthy lady who loved to travel. That was the important part of it. "Rosa" hired a manager and communicated her desires by owl. Miranda was only a waitress in her own establishment, but it allowed her to live in the slums around Hogsmeade and interact with the people she still considers herself one of ... even if she had been a Muggle in life.

Personality: Miranda is a loner, which is a direct result of the decisions she has made as a vampire. She was highly social as a human and had a sunny personality, but all of that has been shattered and replaced with a sad, guilty immortal who does her best to avoid human contact ... and, in fact, contact with pretty much any sentient being, supernatural or not. She is not a complete hermit, but does not go out of her way to make friends and interact with people.

Under the right set circumstances, she could let loose and become the person she really is. She could, perhaps, once more be bright and cheerful. However, she cannot foresee a combination of events that would allow her to be that person again. She is terrified that she will not be able to control herself.

Feeling lost and alone in the world, Miranda has often thought about ending her existence. The main factor stopping her is that suicide is a sin and would send her directly to hell, and Miranda is a strong believer in hell. So long as she still exists there is still hope for her soul à unless she is already dead. That is, in some ways, her greatest hope. If she is already dead, then the last thing she did in her life was confess, and as such her soul will go to heaven once she finds rest.

If, as she suspects is the case, she is not truly dead, then she must take account of what she does in this extended life. That means she needs to confess ... an impossibility, as that would mean revealing herself as a vampire to a human. Most vampires do not seem to have much concern for their souls, and so there are no (to her knowledge) vampiric priests for her to go to. She would even settle for a Protestant minister! But it seems to her to be a hopeless quest, and so she has practically given up all hope that she will be able to do so. All in all, Miranda is a sad, lonely shell of who she used to be. She wishes she could return to who she was ... but does not see that happening.

    Boggart: Her family, dead.

    Amortentia: Fresh herbs and tea.

    Sample Roleplay Post:

Miranda hurried along the street, her cloak pulled tightly around her more to shield her from the damaging effects of the sun than because she actually needed to warm her perpetually icy body. She was dressed for work, headed to pick up the afternoon and evening shift. It was easier on her rather, ah, unique physiology to work when the sun was falling than to do so all day. With a clean white apron falling over her black skirt and the collar of white shirt starched up under her chin, the vampire would have looked perfectly respectable in most circles ... and that was exactly what she wanted. Of course, no one would ever consider her to be respectable ... not as a vampire, and even less so if they realized she had never been a witch to begin with.

Pushing a stray hair back into it's place in her pale bun with her gloved hand, the waitress let her parcel dangle from one hand for a moment. It proved to be a moment too long as a wholly respectable looking young lady bumped into her and the fabric wrapped bundle fell to the ground and tumbled into a pile of brown and black flecked snow. Biting her lower lip with sharp teeth, the infinitely pale woman ducked to retrieve her package. The girl was doing the same, which caused Miranda's brow to furrow for a moment before she decided the young woman simply must not have realized what Miss Bytheway was.

"It is quite all right," she said slowly, her voice low. Sometimes people claimed that she sounded different from "normal people," and if this young lady had not realized what Miranda was then the blonde was not going to inform her. Besides, the bundle was in reality nothing. It was supposed to appear to be a lunch to preserve the illusion of humanity that Miranda tried to cultivate; it was a prop and nothing more. "I was not watching closely enough. The fault is as much mine as it is yours."
