Appearance: Holly is a pretty woman but there is little point in a lady’s maid being pretty. She keeps her fair hair pulled back in a simple bun, though when she is not working she lets it drape over her shoulder in a pretty braid. Her eyes are light brown and she has numerous freckles dotted over her cheeks. She is not tall woman, standing at five feet, three inches but she is very slight. She is very rarely found in colour, dressing primarily in her ‘uniform’ of black with a white cotton apron, but her previous lady—who was quite fond of Holly—was kind enough to donate several of her former gowns in lighter shades and softer fabrics. She has not worn these since her disastrous romance.
History:
1858 | Holly and her twin brother, Rowan, are born to Wendell and Maryann Tinker.
1862 | Holly’s sister, Willow is born. A quiet, pleasant little girl, Holly immediately takes to the child and is able to help her mother care for her in the most basic of ways.
1864 | Thorne leaves for Hogwarts, and Holly finds herself drafted to help out on the farm. Her duties are hardly taxing—she is very happily in charge (or so she thinks) of the chickens—but she is a hard worker and extremely practical.
1867 | Primrose is born and Linden leaves for Hogwarts. As with Willow, Holly helps out as much as she can with the newborn while still attending to her duties on the farm. She is busier than she ever has been before and finds the work rewarding, but her brother’s tales of Hogwarts and the world beyond their little farm stir in Holly a desire to join them and she looks forward to school.
1869 | Holly is invited to Hogwarts and, alongside her brother, is sorted into Gryffindor. Though quieter than some of her more rambunctious housemates, Holly quickly makes friends and settles easily into her classes, and Thorne’s departure reminds her that her time at Hogwarts is only temporary and resolves to make the most of it.
1870 | Grandpa Eli’s death leaves the farm in her father’s hands. Alfafa is born.
1872 | Linden leaves school following his OWLs and begins work on a farm in Wales.
1873 | Pansy is born and Willow joins Holly and Rowan at Hogwarts, where she is sorted into Hufflepuff.
1874 | Holly and Rowan are pulled out of school following the completion of their OWLs, and whilst Rowan remains at home on the farm Holly finds herself on a train bound for Glasgow where a job as a housemaid awaits. The work is arduous and the hours are long, but Holly finds her experience working on the farm and helping her mother with her siblings to be beneficial and easily adapts. The homesickness abates in time, and she is able to occasionally secure a day or two off to visit her family. Thorne marries a muggle woman named Melinda.
1875 | Thorne’s first child, Jackson, is born. Linden moves to Manchester where he finds work in a factory.
1876 | Linden returns to the farm in Wales.
1877 | Holly’s hard work pays off and, following the departure of the current head housemaid, she finds herself elevated to the position. It is also the year she catches the eye of His Lordship’s valet, a handsome gentleman named ___.
1878 | It is an eventful year. Holly’s niece, Elsie, is born and Willow becomes a mediwitch, but in April, Thorne abandons his wife and children for America. He is never seen again, and his absence leaves a void at the farm which is filled by Linden who is recalled home to work. Holly’s relationship with ___ appears to be going from strength to strength and he asks for permission to formally court her.
1879 | Scarcely a month later Holly discovers he is already married and their relationship comes to an abrupt end despite his protestations. Unable to remain there, Holly begins to search for alternative employment. With the departure of Her Ladyship’s lady’s maid, she is asked to step in temporarily until a replacement can be found and picks up the skill and experience she will need to progress to the next stage in her career.
1880 | Willow marries and Lavender leaves for Hogwarts where she is sorted into Gryffindor. Holly’s mistress finds another lady’s maid but rewards her hard-work with a glowing reference, which she uses to secure employment in Hogsmeade, this time as a real lady’s maid despite her relatively young age. She returns home for Christmas with the good news, but tells none of her family about the debacle with the valet.
1882 | Willow gives birth to her first child and Alfalfa leaves for Hogwarts and is sorted into Hufflepuff. Sadly, Melinda takes ill and passes away, leaving her children in the care of their grandparents. Holly returns home for the funeral, and spends as much time as she can with her niece and nephew before returning to Hogsmeade.
1883 | Wendell dies and Linden inherits the farm. Primrose begins work as a seamstress at a Hogsmeade shop, enabling the sisters to see each other far more often. Holly continues to work hard and sees her family as often as she is able, keeping her head firmly down and decidedly away from men.
