Appearance:

Height: 5 foot even.
Weight: 110 lbs.
Hair: Thick, a dark brown (so dark that it appears black in low light) and slightly wavy. It falls to below her waist and has become quite heavy when pinned up, which causes her frequent headaches.
Eyes: The same shade as her hair and a slightly slanted almond shape, which becomes far more obvious when she smiles.
Skin: Pale with subtle olive undertones and a healthy complexion. She has gained a few blemishes with age, but has managed to cover them up with makeup.
Wand Hand: Right.
Clothing: She wears muggle clothing that fits her station.

History:
1853: Born the eldest daughter to a newly immigrated Chinese mother and a British-Chinese father through an arranged marriage.

1859: Displays her first sign of magic at the age of 6. Understandably, it freaks her muggle parents out and they are convinced she's the devil. They suspect she's going to die soon and begin to try for another child. Despite the gloomy outlook, she's a joyfully precious child.

1860: She hasn't died yet, which means that they now have two children. Go figure. The pair grow up alongside numerous cousins. Most notably is Miss ____ Virgot, who is born in 1865.

1870 - 1877: Effie's 11th birthday brings an odd woman in funny clothes to explain to her parents that she isn't the devil, she's a witch - which to them is basically the same thing. They send her off quite happily, convinced that her new school will have to pay for her funeral costs. They don't speak of it to the family - anyone who asks about her disappearance is met with a stubborn silence - and it's brushed under the rug. She's sorted into Hufflepuff.

She returns home every summer and despite her parents' conviction, they begin to accept that perhaps she isn't all that bad and that she isn't going to die. She's very careful to keep anything magic away from them. Through many struggles (she was a fairly average student), she manages to complete her Hogwarts education.

1877: Despite their age difference, Effie and Davy have developed a close relationship. When their parents die just after she leaves Hogwarts from a case of pneumonia, they move in with Miss _____ Virgot's family. Davy was already working at the factory by that time and Effie worked at a small shop. Once in a while she'd use magic to help her get by, but only when she was certain nobody else was looking.

1880: Effie is proposed to by a regular to the shop, a Mr. Bradley Croft. He's a good man and kind, and she's highly aware of the burden she has on her family. The two marry six months later.

1881: A bad case of influenza wipes her husband away from her, which leaves her a childless widow. By this point, it becomes rather obvious that Davy and Miss _____ Virgo plan to wed in the future, which she encourages because she wants to see them both happy. After a discussion with her brother on what makes her happy, she begins to think that perhaps she ought to re-integrate herself into the magical community. She manages to find a place teaching younger children how to read. She rents a room from a boarding house.

1882: There is a terrible incident with the factory and Irvingly is created. Effie is thrilled to discover that Davy is so near to her, albeit surprised to hear that their second cousin has accompanied him - specifically because the pair are unwed. It is only a couple of months later that Effie learns that the Muggle Studies position at Hogwarts is open and from the encouragement of her brother, applies. Much to their surprise, she's accepted.

1885: Having been a widow for four years, Effie is rather lonely and finds teaching the only fulfilling thing in her life at present. She really needs to find a hobby. Or get laid.
