    Nathaniel O'Toole
    #1
    In Character
    Full Name: Nathaniel Eugene O'Toole

    Nicknames: Nate

    Birthdate: September 10, 1855

    Current Age: 25

Occupation: Self-Employed (AKA whatever you'll pay him to do)

    Hogwarts House: Slytherin

Wand: 12 ¥", Mahogany, Dragon heartstring

    Blood Status: half

    Social Class: lower class

    Family: Unknown

Appearance: The first thing anyone notices about Nate is his height. He towers over society in a way that is both convenient and annoying. He tends to stand out but seeing over all the top hats and towers of hair is an advantage he finds amusing. His features are sharp, a pointed jaw line and high cheek bones that any high class man with a title would be proud of. His eyes are blue, but not a bright sort. The shade of blue that gives his features and cons depth. As for his wardrobe, he owns two pair of pants, both a faded shade of brown and he has four shirts to choose from. They're all baggy and stretched out but they finish off the vagabond look he's been working so hard on for years.

History: The start of Nathaniel's life was a miracle. A sickly thin prostitute giving birth naturally to twin boys wasn't something many women survived in 1855 but with the help of a sympathetic healer that stumbled upon her moaning down a back alley Nathaniel and Nicholas O'Toole were born. The boys were healthy and their Mother survived. The good Samaritan let Nora (their Mother) stay until the boys were 6 months old. Or, she would have if a man in black hadn't broken in and tore the place apart and nearly beat Nora to death. He would have finished the job if the aurors hadn't shown up at the right moment.

So Nora took her precious little boys and ran. She hid all over London, lived in every small village, hid in barns and stables until she felt she was far enough away. Tucked away on the coast of Scotland she raised them to be gentlemen. She taught them to fly on secondhand brooms and threw a small party on the day their magical prowess began to show. Nate was always the leader of the two. He walked first, babbled first, fed himself with a spoon first, and showed signs of magic first.

It was their third birthday when he finally found them. And this time he didn't send someone in his place. The wealthy man that had fathered the children broke into their home the night of their third birthday. Nicholas was sleeping in his Mother's bed and died that night with her. And Nate would have too, if the man had known that Nora gave birth to twins rather than one baby. A few days later the healer that had had such a big part of their entrance into the world came to visit and discovered the bodies. She took Nate away from that place and to an orphanage attached to St. Mungo's, where he was raised.

Besides the death of his Mother there was little more to note in his childhood. He found his way up the hierarchy that the children had there and was popular amongst his peers but it wasn't until he reached Hogwarts that he really came into his own. He was a poor kid sorted into Slytherin and his lack of funding was obvious. But what he lacked in expensive clothes and new books he made up for in wits and charm. By his third year he'd set up a school-wide gambling ring on quidditch matches and earned himself detention for trying to fix a game halfway through his fourth year. Fifth year he'd perfected it and fixed the entire bracket all the way up to which house won the quidditch cup. He didn't do it for the money attached to it, though. Despite his success he was still always broke and there was good reason for that. He got rid of his money as soon as he earned it. He'd send it back to the orphanage or give it to someone else. He didn't want anything to do with the money. He knew what it could do to a person.

Despite all his success in school Nate lacked something that set the tone for his life after he graduated. There was no ambition. He had no drive, no goals he wanted to work towards, nothing. And so when he graduated, handing his gambling career off to a fourth year that had been mirroring him for a year, he wandered. He didn't know where to go or what to do and so he did nothing. He found a place to squat near the docks and did odd jobs here and there, picked a pocket every now and then, and gambled away what he did have. For a while he was employed by one of the industry men at the docks but when he was found in bed with the man's oldest daughter he was chased out of both the bed and the docks.

He found his way to the city and worked construction or helped with loading. He toyed with the idea of saving up to buy himself a horse and carriage to become a valet. But anytime his mound of money got too high he'd get scared and squander it away any way he could. Things continued this way, and still do. When Hogsmeade opened he found his way there a few times, did some odd jobs with construction and the like. But he spends most of his time in the back room of the Hogs Head trying to establish himself as head of the games that take place back there. He makes enough to rent a room upstairs but the ambition is starting to bite as his ankles. Perhaps he could be something bigger. But the fear of becoming the man that killed his Mother looms over his head and holds him back.

    Patronus: Unknown

    Boggart: Wealth

Amortentia: Sea salt, freshly cut lumber, tobacco, and cucumbers

Sample Roleplay Post: It was pretty obvious that her acting wasn't having the effect she'd been hoping for. Some part of her wanted to talk into his empathetic area, tell her that everything would be alright and he'd just overlook the D. It worked in theory. If there was ever a teacher she could pushover it had to be Lupin, right? As Adi sat there with her arms crossed she sighed and easily kept her helpless expression intact. His lecture wasn't what she wanted to hear. When he said it was all ink and paper it took nearly all she had within her to keep from mouthing the words sarcastically along with the teacher. He said it at the beginning and end of every lesson. She got it. He was enthusiastic about defenses. That probably stemmed from the whole orphan thing. Adalyn wiped at her tearing eyes and took a deep breath as she adjusted to the edge of her seat, looking down at her essay and then up at her professor as he continued to speak.

"No, they won't, because you won't have a D if you spend just a few minutes concentrating on what I have to tell you."

Adi shook her head, "It's not about concentrating. It's about the fact that none of this makes sense to me. If someone wanted to hurt me they'd just do it with a forbidden spell or something! And I know there are no defenses for that."

"I even caught that boggart again so you could practice."

Oh no. Inside panic rose quickly in the blonde's throat. She had missed the boggart class on purpose. She didn't know yet what it would become when it met her but the possibility that it could be herself open about her bloodist thoughts was far too high. Her foot tapped a little faster and she missed everything he said as she tried to think of every possible thing that could get her out of the tutoring session. But before she knew it Professor Lupin had her on her feet moving towards the trembling bureau. It began to move more as they got closer and when he asked if she remembered the spell she nodded and moved her wand weakly, "Riddikulus." She licked her lips and did her best to clear her thoughts. When he asked if she was ready Adalyn nodded.

But she wasn't ready at all when the bureau opened and she tumbled out followed by three dementors and the minister. They were reciting her crimes, hate crimes against mudbloods and halfbloods, cavorting with questionable company, and various other things. They were all crimes others had been accused of, others in her family and friends of her family had all committed before the war. It was during the great reformation that this sort of thing had been common. And now it was happening to her. Adi paled and tried to tear her eyes away from the scene to see what her professor was thinking but she couldn't look away. And perhaps it was good she couldn't see her.

After a moment she raised her wand and moved it perfectly as the incantation escaped her lips, "Riddikulus." But the boggart didn't change at all. She shook her head and looked down, eyes still up on the creature, and then tried it again with her eyes closed. But it wasn't working!! She whimpered a little and tried again, this time her tone slightly more panicky. Clearing her throat and looking up at the image she narrowed her eyes. This time she said the incantation with a clear strong voice and with a pop the boggart changed. She disappeared and the dementors began dancing in choreographed moves to a song the minister was belting out. It was enough to get a soft laugh from the girl and the creature was weak enough to be shoved back into its place in the closet.

She didn't dare look at her professor yet and instead looked down, adjusting her blouse and jeans, before looking up at him. She touched her face to brush her hair back and only then realized that she'd been crying. Adi's eyes went up to meet her Professor's, surprise in her eyes, and she was the first to speak in a soft voice as she wiped away at her face, "I'm not like my Father. I'm not like them."
