Appearance:

Elaine stands at the smaller side of average at five feet, with a petite build to match that is somewhat lacking in womanly curves. She has thin lips that most often possess a shyer, though no less sincere smile than her sister Gwenda's, and warm brown eyes that hold nothing but kindness for all they look upon. Elaine has a good eye for fashion without being a slave to the current trends, and often dresses in jewel tones. She is right handed.

History:

1866 | Elaine is born, and proves to be a quiet, not-too-fussy baby.

1867 | Tristan is born.

1869 | Gawain is the first of her siblings to leave for Hogwarts. Though Elaine is only three at the time, Gwenda's obvious distress at the change disquiets her as well, and she dreads the day the rest of her siblings leave her forever! It is, eventually, explained to her that they will come back during the summer and after they graduate, though Elaine finds it hard to believe until Gawain actually does so at the end of his first year.

1871 | It's Tegan's turn to leave for Hogwarts, and Elaine is beside herself at the thought of her dear sister leaving. The distress is so great that Elaine vanishes the front door of their home in order to prevent Tegan's departure.

1875 | Now old enough to actually understand the concept of school, Elaine is less outwardly upset at Gwenda's departure, though she sorely misses her sister's near-constant presence at her side. The pair write constantly, and Elaine consoles herself with the expectation of her Hogwarts letter in two years' time, though it seems an eternity away.

1877 | At last, Elaine receives her letter and is off to school in the fall. She joins Gwenda in Hufflepuff, and she couldn't be happier about that fact. 

1879 | Tristan is the last of the Carmichael siblings to come to Hogwarts. Meanwhile, Tegan marries a Muggle man, and relocates to Bath. Elaine now sees even less of her eldest sister than before, and secretly resents her new brother-in-law just a little for it, but would never say it out loud. Why on earth couldn't they live somewhere closer? This, coupled with the family's move to Hogsmeade later in the year, sets Elaine somewhat off-kilter, but she does her best to remain her bubbly, sweet self on the outside. 

At the beginning of her third year, Elaine chooses COMC and Ancient Studies as her electives.

1882 | School has never come particularly easily to Elaine, and she works hard for every grade she receives. Her OWL results are still somewhat disappointing despite her efforts, and she only carries on with Ancient Studies, Herbology, COMC, and Charms at the NEWT level. She also continues with art classes, which she has always loved and excelled in. Gwenda also graduates this year, and while Elaine has had no trouble making other friends during her schooling, she still feels the absence of her favorite sister keenly.

1884 | Elaine graduates with passable NEWTs, and is launched into her first season. She has never been one to vie for the spotlight, perfectly content to let Gwenda dazzle the room in her stead. This attitude, combined with the plague and fire that ravage Hogsmeade that summer, results in little attention for the brunette. If she feels any anxiety over it, she keeps it close to her chest, a fact that perplexes her mother to no end.

In truth, Elaine finds the intricate dance and scrutiny of flirtation and courtship to be nothing short of exhausting and anxiety-inducing. She would much rather spend her time with her art and her family, and personally sees no reason why she should have to get married at all -- it's not as though she'll be destitute otherwise! Besides, she has little interest in leaving her family behind for just anyone -- she supposes it's possible she could fall hopelessly in love with the man of her dreams, but she hardly sees how when it's so difficult to actually get to know anyone at balls and parties; and she has never been quite as good at flirtation and small talk as her sisters.  

Meanwhile, Gwenda strikes up an acquaintance with Mr. Llewellyn Cadwallader, and Elaine decides that they are absolutely perfect for each other. She and her school friend, Gwyneth, amuse themselves by playing matchmaker between them -- and it seems to be working! While Gwenda's lack of attachment provides a convenient excuse for Elaine not to focus on marrying herself, she is hardly so selfish as to resent her sister's good fortune. Besides, there is always finishing school!

1885 | The fall and winter following her first season leave Elaine with precious little to do, but she finds ways to keep herself occupied. She has always been artistically talented, and soon discovers a knack for designing stationary. Her friends and family soon receive beautifully personalized stationary sets designed by her, and she begins to wonder if perhaps she could do something more with her talent. Tentative attempts to broach the subject with her parents have been less than encouraging, but Elaine isn't quite ready to give up on the idea just yet, despite her mother's continued attempts to steer her towards marriage. In January, her father loses his leg while investigating a case and is forced to retire from his position as Head Auror, which only strengthens her resolve to never marry so that she might take care of him and her mother. 

Personality: Imaginative. Sensitive. Kind. Escapist. Secretive. Artistic. Devoted to family. Overcautious. Shy, but sweet. Humble to a fault.
