    Belated Birthday

    Antigone,
A very belated birthday present. I suppose I ought to have remembered, but you were very pregnant and I was distracted by the impending arrival of babies.

    Tiberius,

    His name is Maximus.
He ate a lot before I sent this.
I hope he defecates on your desk.

    Antigone,
A good name for an owl.

My intention was not that you would start writing letters to people under the same roof. But I'm glad you apparently like him so much.

Most women are changed by maternity, I hear; much more mature. You seem to be the exception; just as youthful as ever.

    Tiberius,

I am perfectly mature, thank you very much! If you wanted someone even more mature, perhaps you should have married a middle aged widow instead!

Or my sister, she thinks she's more mature than me. You'd make a great pair. I'd probably like you better as a brother-in-law too.

Not delivered by owl; he directed a servant to put this one on her breakfast tray the next morning, along with a white rose in a slender vase.
'Liking me better' implies you like me at least a little now. I'm horribly flattered.

    Tiberius,

I like your cousin Ellory more than I like you.
Which is to say, not at all.
    Obviously.

    Antigone,
    How sweet you are.

I think you pretend to be much more barbarous than you are. Someday, I hope the world will be able to see the succulent young blossom that I see in my lovely wife.

*On the morning of the 21st, the tea on her breakfast tray was spiked (this appears to be becoming a habit). The potion in it has a slightly floral smell and taste, and causes the drinker to only be able to speak in compliments. They can still write whatever they want.
