Appearance: Of average height (5’4”) and slender build, Polymnia casts a graceful figure. She is usually seen poised and calm, never in a hurry. Her wavy hair is an auburn brown and falls to mid-back. It is usually put up in a bun, with the exception of a few wisps which always seem to escape. Her bangs are cut to cover her forehead, her eyes are a dark brown, and her skin is pale. Although of the upper class, she prefers simple dresses to the high fashion that is often worn. Polymnia is naturally left handed, although she writes and does her wand work with her right. She has a small scar on her left hand where her childhood governess hit her a few times to train her not to use her left hand.
History:
February 16, 1860 | Polymnia is born as the only child to Alfred and Marie Argyle.
1864 | One evening, Polymnia shows her first sign of magic as she levitates dishes in an attempt to help a servant in the kitchen.
1871 | During the summer, Polymnia is elated to receive her letter to Hogwarts. She begins in the fall and is sorted into Hufflepuff. At first, she is quite shy, unaccustomed to being around so many people, but soon falls into the life of a student well. While she is clever, she does struggle with a few subjects, like Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts, and has to study harder for those.
1873 | Third year begins and Polymnia finds that she enjoys her electives of Care of Magical Creatures, Muggle Studies, and Ancient Runes over anything else.
1876 | O.W.L. scores are as follows:
Even though it isn’t really needed, Polymnia decides to continue her schooling with Ancient Runes, Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, and Muggle Studies.
1877 | At a holiday party, Polly meets Eugene Scamander and is immediately smitten. She is overjoyed when he continues to write her while she is at school.
1878 | Polymnia finishes at Hogwarts. N.E.W.T. scores are as follows:
1879 | After two years, Eugene proposes much to Polly’s delight. He and Polymnia marry on September 7th. That winter, the pair are elated to find out they are pregnant with their first child.
1880 | The first son, Cirus Scamander, is born. Polymnia is elated and takes to her new role as a mother with delight, doting on the new child.
Heartbreakingly, later in the year, Cirus passes away due to whooping cough. Polly and Eugene are absolutely devastated. For several months, Polly practically refuses to leave what was Cirus’ room, mourning. Slowly, however, she draws herself out of her grief and takes up raising hippogriffs as a hobby.
1881 | Polly’s hobby becomes more and she has taken to breeding hippogriffs. Although she still quietly grieves for her child, she manages to cope between the love of her husband and her new “career.” However, no attempts for more children are made.
1884 | Early in the year, Polly finds out that she is pregnant again. Although she is terrified to lose another child, the pregnancy goes well and Wren is born in December. In the beginning, Polly is somewhat of a hypochondriac when it comes to Wren but soon gets over that fear and is overjoyed to be a mother again.
Eugene also runs in the 1884 election for Minister of Magic with Polly’s support.
1886 | A second healthy daughter, Fawn, is born in May.
Although Polymnia will always miss Cirus, the Scamander family is quite happy again. She continues breeding hippogriffs while at the same time trying to grow their family all the more with Eugene.
Personality: Although she never had younger siblings to care for, Polymnia is a natural mother figure. Becoming a parent was one of her greatest pleasures and she absolutely dotes on her children, especially the ones born after the death of Cirus. Likewise, she is also extremely caring of and supportive of her husband, doing her best when she is doing for others rather than herself. Polmynia is selfless, kind, clever, and calm. However, she sometimes has a tendency to be a little bit of a hypochondriac (especially when it comes to her children) and worrisome, although she is mostly able to reign that in. Likewise, her calm and patient demeanor is helpful most of the time, but it can sometimes be misconstrued as being overly-passive and almost-reclusive, as she prefers the company of her family and hippogriffs rather than others. Like her husband, Polymnia is a little more liberal leaning in her views.
